Get ready to turn up the lights in here baby…extra bright, I want y’all to see this. Turn up the lights in here, baby…you know what I need. Want you to see everything…want you to see all of the lights…of The Weekly Static!

But before we get started and with a bucket of apologies to Kanye West and Rihanna, it’s time to cry “Havoc!” and let slip the dogs of war… because here it is!

So one more time for the people in the cheap seats, here’s a quick reminder about what this is all about: The Weekly Static is my righteously desperate-yet-endearing attempt at finding the lighter side and an interesting perspective on the past week in the land of the networks, cable, streaming, smoke signals, cloud formations, and shadow puppets.

Our goal? Pretty simple:

● Offer a blunt, honest perspective on a handful of random TV news posts from the past week that also highlights your relentless team of news-thirsty Bleeding Cool writers and the quality work they do.

● Spotlight a news item we might’ve missed that you should find interesting.

● Feed my insatiable ego with humble offerings of praise, adulation, social media shares, pizza, Superman Funkos, and a plethora of Eisner Award nominations.

Coliseum Of Comics Buys Two Comic Shops, Making Nine Stores In The Chain

Orlando based comic book chain Coliseum Of Comics has purchased two new Floridan comic book stores to add to the chain, Superhero Hive and Superhero Beach or Riverside and Jacksonville Beach, bought from store owner Neil Sindicich. He set up the Jacksonville Beach store in 2011 and purchased the Riverside store in 2013.

These two stores will create a total of nine stores in the Coliseum of Comics family.

They will also be adding an extra day onto the week’s business, both now opening on Mondays, with evening extended hours, and a grand reopening fornoth stores in February for the chain’s 35th anniversary.

Jacksonville Business Journal quotes the store president Phil Boyle as saying “we’re really happy to be keeping the same staff in place, because one of the things we’ve realized over the years is that the people that run comic stores are kind of the bartenders to the nerd sect. And that’s a happy term”.

And that the new chain will add new products to the purchased stores, including “a full line of trade paperbacks, Funko Pop vinyl figures, action figurines, expanded line of new comics and a significant addition of back issues.”

And lots of statues. “Coliseum has always liked a high-end store… I love having the statues in the stores, even though some of them are extremely pricey, they look wonderful and it brings a different clientele into the stores. We have high-end back issues as well, it’s something we’ve always pursued.”

Wolfcop Sequel ‘Another Wolfcop’ Gets A Fun New Trailer

Wolfcop was one of the more campy and fun films to come out in recent memory. The comic was pretty fun, as well. It was inevitable that it would get a sequel, and the fact that the title is Another Wolfcop is amazing. Releasing on December 1st, we have a new trailer for the film you can see below (also: NSFW):

Another Wolfcop continues the legend of alcoholic werewolf cop Lou Garou. This time around, must spring into action to fight an eccentric businessman who has evil intentions of seducing Woodhaven’s residents with a new brewery and hockey team.

After being shown at a bunch of festivals and such since last year including Fantastic Fest, we finally get the theatrical release. Leo Fafard is back as the Wolfcop, and we even get a cameo from Kevin Smith as “Zumba Guy”. So there’s that to look forward to, as well. You know what? Now that I think about it: why haven’t we gotten a Wolfcop Funko Pop yet? You would think that would sell itself. I also love that the poster is a takeoff of the Stallone ’80s classic Cobra. That’s a favorite of mine.

Also included in the cast are Amy Matysio, Jonathan Cherry, Laura Abramsen, Yannick Bisson, Jessica Hinkson, and Serena Miller.

Black Panther Takes Over Funko In January

Black Panther is getting a humongous amount of Funko products in January. With the film coming in February, this is not a surprise. They will be offering a little of everything as well including: a huge wave of Pops, keychains, Pint Size, plush, and Dorbz. Let’s take a look shall we?

Black Panther Funko Pop Keychains and Plush

Two keychains to collect. You will notice a theme of the blue glow suit throughout the line. The plushies look great, and it looks like the case pack is pretty even so that’s a good thing.

Black Panther Funko Dorbz and Pint Size Heroes

Dorbz focus on Panther and Erik Killmonger, with both of their respective suits represented. The only exclusive looks to be the blue glow suit again at Hot Topic. I am excited about the Pint Size, who wants to bet me that the mystery figure is the blue glow suit Black Panther?

Black Panther Funko Pops

Now onto the Pops. Three versions of Black Panther are coming, and it is a little curious that the unmasked version is the regular and full suit is a Chase. Odd choice there, although I guess it looks like he will be spending a lot of time without the mask on in the film. Killmonger also gets a chase with a mask on, and the likeness to Michael B. Jordan is spot on. Shuri and Nakia also receive a general release. All of these sculpts look wonderful with lots of little details, so I am excited to get my hands on these.

Black Panther Funko Pop Exclusives

Not too many exclusives to track down. Although two of them are in hard to get stores. Walmart gets a glow version of Killmonger, while Target gets the blue glow version of Black Panther. Both are stores that are notorious for being terrible at getting their exclusives out, so good luck. Okoye being a Funko Shop exclusive is a nice change, I have had pretty painless experiences dealing with them. Overall, I am glad that these will be mostly variants that I will not need to track down.
