2017 Collectibles Countdown #2: Funko Hunting

As I mentioned with the Funko Kingdom Hearts Box, this is a thing that I know is a thing from observing the BC Staff, who live in various parts of the world, and attend various conventions depending on time, place, and circumstances. Often a call goes out for help in finding something that can’t be obtained locally, and often that call is answered. I’m sure it’s much the same everywhere, which is why the map below was so popular right before SDCC this past summer.

Original Headline: Where Can You Get Funko SDCC Exclusives If You Aren’t At The Show? We Have The Answer! Published July 19, 2017

Funko has revealed the list of exclusives that are shared and where to get them if you are not at the show itself.

Many thanks to FunkoPopHunters for doing the awesome job organizing here! It makes me happy some of the Pop Up Shop Animation stuff will be on the Funko Store page. Lots of surprises here as well. Jolly Roger is for sure going to be a huge get if you can get into the booth since he is not shared anywhere. It looks like some of the flocked Pops from the animated shop will be shared, but some others won’t? Maybe it will be an assortment. I really did not expect much from there to be shared at all, so we will take what we can get. And unless you catch them online, good luck finding the shared exclusives with Walmart! the ones in my area have never gotten a single one, so in my opinion, those will be the hardest. Make sure for all of these starting tonight you get the store pages locked and loaded so you are ready to go when everything hits the web. Should be tonight around midnight, so the night owls will have an advantage. If not online, make sure you get to the stores as close to open as possible: Funko shipped everything ahead of time so as long as your store is not lazy, they should be there.

So what is everyone going to go for? Here at the show, I will be trying for the Rock Candy Flinstones, Aragorn and Arwen, the Stranger Things Pops, Leia and R2-D2, and a few others. Fingers crossed for everyone,I hope you all able to get whatever you want without resorting to eBay, since that makes this all way less fun. And happy hunting!

2017 Collectibles Countdown #5: Kingdom Hearts Funko Box

2017 was the year of Funko is a bunch of different ways, and exclusive collector’s boxes is certainly one of them.  I am no Funko collector myself, alas, but I am a collector of very many other things, and I can tell when another collector is really into it from a hundred miles away, and there are at minimum five people on the BC staff who are really into Funko. Searching the BC posts of 2017, it looks like we did 370 posts about Funko on the year.  More than one a day, but I honestly would have guessed more.  Maybe we’ll beat that next year.

Original Headline: Kingdom Hearts Gets An Exclusive Funko Box At Gamestop, Let’s Dive In, Published October 14, 2017

Kingdom Hearts is one of the modern gaming eras most-beloved franchises. There is no disputing that. Since Funko Pops took over the collecting world, people have wanted Kingdom Hearts Pops. We started by getting Disney favorites in their Kingdom Hearts looks. We are about to get the original characters here very shortly. We now are getting versions of both based on worlds inside the game. Halloweentown was first. Goofy and Donald were NYCC shared exclusives with Hot Topic. Sora is a Hot Topic exclusive hitting stores now. And the exclusive that comes in this Gamestop-only box joins them.

Kingdom Hearts Gamestop Exclusive Tron Three Pack

Man…as soon as I saw this three pack it became one of my favorite Pops. The Tron films are very special to me, and the level in the game is a favorite. So as soon as news of this box dropped I frantically searched the 5 Gamestops around me until I could find one.

Once you get the Pops out of the box, the figures look even better. There is not a lot of room for error on these.  The paint jobs on each could be a disaster because of the design. But I am happy to report there is not a single splotch out of place. They really outdid themselves here. Each figure is in scale and has the iconic Tron piping around their grid suits. I can’t decide which is my favorite, so I will just say all of them. Sora looks the coolest in the suit, Donald has the most fun pose, and Goofy has the most expressive face. Pictures do not do them justice, you really need to see them in person.

Kingdom Hearts Gamestop Exclusive Mystery Minis

Kingdom Hearts Funko Mystery Minis 1 Kingdom Hearts Funko Mystery Minis 2 Kingdom Hearts Funko Mystery Minis 3 Kingdom Hearts Funko Mystery Minis 4 Kingdom Hearts Funko Mystery Minis 5

Each box also contains two Kingdom Hearts Mystery Minis. There are four in all: Sora, Riku, Kairi, and a Heartless. I was kind of hoping for Sora and a Heartless, but any combination of the four was ok with me. They pose very well, and the Kairi really pops with the brighter colors.

Each box costs $29.99 and comes with the Tron three pack and two Mystery Minis. There is also a Tron glow in the dark 1/4 variant because life is cruel. To get a shot at that glow chase and completing the Mystery Minis set you will need to buy multiple boxes. I will say that the tron set is well worth the price alone. The Minis are a cool bonus.

If you want to purchase one, stop into your local Gamestop or order one online right here.
