Funko’s Disney Afternoon Action Figures Sneek Peek!

When Funko announced last week that they would be producing action figures from a variety of great Disney cartoons of yesteryear, little did I know that they would show up on my doorstep days later!  Before we get into the nostalgic awesomeness, I’d like to thank Funko for the opportunity to give you fine folks a peek at what they’ve got in store.  I think you’ll agree, Funko really hit these out of the park.

The set consists of six carded figures, all in the 4″ scale range (which means they’ll fit in perfectly with your old Darkwing Duck figures!), and feature a nice range of articulation.  The original Negaduck (Darkwing Duck black & white repaint) is a chase figure, which Funko states is found “one of out every six”.  Hopefully he won’t be too hard to find for fans.  Let’s also hope this is just the first of many series for this line, because they are on another level for Funko.  They’ve really elevated their game here; these are gorgeous.  Aside from the clean paint apps and sharp sculpts, I’m impressed at the level of personality the sculpts convey.  Let’s check them out!

Baloo from Talespin

Baloo stands the tallest of the bunch, and includes a ball jointed head, pin and disk ball joint shoulders, elbows, waist (cleverly hidden), and cut leg joints.  Let’s hope the artwork on the back of the card foreshadows future cast mates from the show.

Scrooge McDuck from DuckTales

Uncle Scrooge includes his trademark cane and a bag of cold hard cash.  His spectacles are a separate piece of clear cast plastic, and they look great.  He features a ball jointed head, pin and disk ball joint shoulders, elbows, waist, and cut leg joints.  Clearly we need his nephews Huey, Dewy, and Louie!

Chip and Dale (with Zipper) from Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers

Both Chip and Dale feature swivel heads, pin and disk ball joint shoulders, elbows, waist, and cut leg joints.  Zipper is included as an accessory with Dale.  It would be nice to get a 2 pack with Gadget Hackwrench and Monterey Jack (hint hint Funko!)

Darkwing Duck

Darkwing is easily my favorite of the bunch.  He includes his trusty gun and features a swivel head, pin and disk ball joint shoulders, elbows, waist, and cut leg joints.  His cape is a flexible rubber.  The chase figure for this series is the original black and white Negaduck!  I can see the second Negaduck being another repainted exclusive down the line as well.  Let’s hope Funko doesn’t make us wait too long to get a Launchpad!

I hope you all had as much fun checking these out as I did photographing them.  They’re a blast, and show how Funko continues to evolve as a player in the action figure market.  A full on Disney line like this would be simply amazing.  Thanks again to Funko, look for these to hit shelves next month in November.  As always, all images are copyright Action Figures Insider, and cannot be used without the expressed written permission of the author and Action Figure Insider.

DCTV Recap: Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, And Legends Are Back

With the return of all the Arrowverse shows this week on the CW, I thought I’d do a quick recap of the shows for anyone who doesn’t care about spoilers and wants to know what happened. For now, we’ll call this the DCTV Recap and could expand into Gotham and other shows later, but for now it’s going to focus on Supergirl, The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, and Arrow.

DCTV Recap

After the long delay, it’s nice to have all the series back. Some of the mysteries were addressed, like who survived on Lian Yu and how long will Barry Allen be in the Speed Force — while others, like what happened to Mon-El, will have to wait. We also got the debut of some new suits for the Flash, Black Canary, and Wild Dog, which means my Funko Pop figures are now outdated again.

We also got to see the introduction of some new characters, such as Morgan Edge (Adrian Pasdar), Reign (Odette Annable) on Supergirl, and the introduction of the Time Bureau on Legends of Tomorrow. However, other big reveals like who Michael Emerson is playing and how the Elongated Man will first show up will have to wait for another day.

Supergirl airs Mondays, Flash and Legends of Tomorrow air Tuesdays, and you can catch Arrow on Thursdays… all on the CW.

Writer/Director Lucky McKee Curates The October Box Of Dread

It is October, the official month of Halloween and Horror. Which means that it’s a perfect time to take a look at the latest Box of Dread subscription box and they’ve really upped their game this month. Starting off with the fact that the Box of Dread now has a cool new box. I really like the logo design.

Box of Dread

And we get a letter from the first Curator of the Box of Dread – director, writer and actor Lucky Mckee. Not sure if this is a guest position or if he’ll be around a while, but either way having things put together by a Masters of Horror writer/director (the episode Sick Girl) is pretty cool.

As part of it being his box to curate, he included a pack of trading cards from Ding Dong, his segment of Tales of Halloween.

And from there it goes into the “Back to School” theme with a Carrie Pop! Vinyl figure. You can’t get much more back to school than the Stephen King classic.

And there’s Pop! Freddy Krueger pencil.

And a Pop! South Park Zombie Kenny keychain. “Oh my God! You killed Kenny! And he’s back!”

And to finish up the Funko fun is a pint size heroes random bag. Haven’t opened mine yet, but I’m hoping for Cthulu.

Also in the box is a DVD copy of All Cheerleaders Die, a movie written and directed by McKee and Chris Silvertson. Synopsis says: A rebel girl signs up a group of cheerleaders to help her take down the captain of their high school football team, but a supernatural turn of events thrusts the girls into a different battle.

And we wrap up with another Stephen King property… not sure it has anything to do with school, but a poster for the new Netflix series Gerald’s Game. Maybe she’s a school teacher.

Kingdom Hearts Gets An Exclusive Funko Box At Gamestop, Let’s Dive In

Kingdom Hearts is one of the modern gaming eras most-beloved franchises. There is no disputing that. Since Funko Pops took over the collecting world, people have wanted Kingdom Hearts Pops. We started by getting Disney favorites in their Kingdom Hearts looks. We are about to get the original characters here very shortly. We now are getting versions of both based on worlds inside the game. Halloweentown was first. Goofy and Donald were NYCC shared exclusives with Hot Topic. Sora is a Hot Topic exclusive hitting stores now. And the exclusive that comes in this Gamestop-only box joins them.

Kingdom Hearts Gamestop Exclusive Tron Three Pack

Man…as soon as I saw this three pack it became one of my favorite Pops. The Tron films are very special to me, and the level in the game is a favorite. So as soon as news of this box dropped I frantically searched the 5 Gamestops around me until I could find one.

Once you get the Pops out of the box, the figures look even better. There is not a lot of room for error on these.  The paint jobs on each could be a disaster because of the design. But I am happy to report there is not a single splotch out of place. They really outdid themselves here. Each figure is in scale and has the iconic Tron piping around their grid suits. I can’t decide which is my favorite, so I will just say all of them. Sora looks the coolest in the suit, Donald has the most fun pose, and Goofy has the most expressive face. Pictures do not do them justice, you really need to see them in person.

Kingdom Hearts Gamestop Exclusive Mystery Minis

Each box also contains two Kingdom Hearts Mystery Minis. There are four in all: Sora, Riku, Kairi, and a Heartless. I was kind of hoping for Sora and a Heartless, but any combination of the four was ok with me. They pose very well, and the Kairi really pops with the brighter colors.

Each box costs $29.99 and comes with the Tron three pack and two Mystery Minis. There is also a Tron glow in the dark 1/4 variant because life is cruel. To get a shot at that glow chase and completing the Mystery Minis set you will need to buy multiple boxes. I will say that the tron set is well worth the price alone. The Minis are a cool bonus.

If you want to purchase one, stop into your local Gamestop or order one online right here.
