The Umbrella Academy Season 2 Opener: So About That OTHER Apocalypse

Okay, I think it's safe to say that Netflix's The Umbrella Academy isn't playing around anymore. Leading up to its second-season launch this Friday, we've been treated to Funko Pop! season one re-enactments, Baby Pogo previews, and a sneak preview of Vanya (Ellen Page) about to go ballistic on a trio of Swedish assassins in a […]

The Umbrella Academy Season 2 Preview: Vanya's Done Running

So about that "only one post per day" policy that we spoke about earlier before the second update about The Umbrella Academy? Yeah, we have another one. Yes, yes, we know. And we're more than willing to own up to hypocrisy, and you know why? Because it's worth it. Following up on a Funko Pop! […]

The Umbrella Academy Story, As Told By Their Funko Pop! Counterparts

With it now only a mere matter of days until Netflix's live-action adaptation of  Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba's comic book series The Umbrella Academy gets time-tossed back into our lives for a second season, the streaming service asked the cast to recreate some of their favorite moments from the first season. But between social-distancing […]

Pedro Pascal Talks Community, Buffy the Vampire Slayer Role and More

First things first, if you haven't checked out the Community cast's charity table read of fifth season episode "Cooperative Polygraphy", you need to treat yourself to it (check out the link below). Along with bringing Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole Brown, Alison Brie, Jim Rash, Ken Jeong, Donald Glover, and series creator Dan Harmon back together, the event also gifted us with guest star Pedro Pascal. Sitting in for Walton Goggins in the role of Mr. Stone, The Mandalorian star made himself an honorary member of the study group (and the breakout star of the table read) by cracking up over the comedic genius behind the line, "liquid nitrogen–cooled cylinder of my hyper-virile sperm" (and not just once).

Pedro Pascal joins The Darkest Timeline with Ken Jeong & Joel McHale.
Pedro Pascal joins The Darkest Timeline with Ken Jeong & Joel McHale.

Thankfully, Pascal got a chance to "explain himself" when he appeared on McHale and Jeong's The Darkest Timeline podcast (Episode #13: "The Changdalorian"). The actor covers his professional journey that's included global series successes Game of Thrones and Narcos, and what lead to his involvement in the Community table read. But for our money, the best part? Pascal's (brief) connection to Buffy's college years during the fourth season opener of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Community fans are also being asked to contribute to two charities that have been front-and-center in the COVID-19 relief effort to get fresh, nourishing meals to both frontline responders and communities in need: Frontline Foods and its partner, José Andrés' World Central Kitchen. Over at the study group's Prizeo site (here), you can make a donation that earns you "entries" (though you don't have to donate to enter) that could find you walking away with the Ultimate Community Fan Package. How "ultimate" are we talking? Oh, it's pretty "ultimate". Following another look at the cast's post-table-read Q&A is a rundown of all the things you can walk away with if you get an entry in before June 1, 11:59 p.m. PST.

In case there's any doubt if the contest's worth it, the prize package begins with a 20-minute private video chat where you get to meet cast members, followed by a guest appearance on McHale and Jeong's podcast The Darkest Timeline. From there, it's a proverbial tidal wave of props and memorabilia: a tiny sombrero that says "Señor Chang", three planters from Troy and Abed's apartment, a CD of "Daybreak" signed by Michael Haggins, one of Britta's sweaters, a custom sweatshirt made exclusively for cast and crew, a signed copy of Shirley's Brownie Bible, a book from the "Competitive Wine Tasting" episode, ten (10) custom lunch boxes made exclusively for cast and crew, and signed Abed, Annie, Britta, and Shirley Funko figures.

Community: Joel McHale, Ken Jeong and Danny Pudi Discuss Everything

In just about twenty-four hours (depending on when you read this), fans of NBC and Yahoo! Screen's Community will be sitting back and enjoying Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole Brown, Alison Brie, Jim Rash, Ken Jeong, Donald Glover, and series creator Dan Harmon's charity reunion table read of fifth season episode "Cooperative Polygraphy". Set to air Monday, May 18, starting at 2 pm PT., the read-through has tapped a friend of the show to sit in for Walton Goggins as Mr. Stone: The Mandalorian lead Pedro Pascal. We're pretty sure by now that you're sold on checking it out. After the previously-released teaser (see below) and the study group's time on The Darkest Timeline with Ken Jeong & Joel McHale, who wouldn't be?

The Darkest Timeline with Ken Jeong & Joel McHale welcomed Danny Pudi to the show.
The Darkest Timeline with Ken Jeong & Joel McHale welcomed Danny Pudi to the show.

Jeong and McHale created the video podcast series as a way of reaching out to Community fans during this time of self-isolation and social distancing. While they're more than happy to take your questions about the popular series, the show covers a wide range of topics and also looks to what the audience wants to debate/discuss. But with the big event happening tomorrow, you'll understand why the duo released an episode's worth of serious quality time with Pudi. Over the course of the episode, the actor covers a wave of diverse topics: from his days working at the United Center during Chicago Bulls games to his new Apple TV+ series Mythic Quest. Oh, and a whole lot Community speak for fans to eat up and enjoy:

As much as we're sure the study group's getting back together because of how much they missed each other, they're also doing it for a good cause. Viewers are also being asked to contribute to two charities that have been front-and-center in the COVID-19 relief effort to get fresh, nourishing meals to both frontline responders and communities in need: Frontline Foods and its partner, José Andrés' World Central Kitchen. Now, the cast is giving you a way to donate and walk away from it possibly the luckiest Community fan in the world. Over at the group's Prizeo site (here), you can make a donation that earns you "entries" and rewards (though you don't have to donate to enter). The more you donate, the more entries you get to submit, and the greater your chances are at the Ultimate Community Fan Package.

The Umbrella Academy Season 2 Episode Titles Feed Our Speculation

Netflix's The Umbrella Academy is one of those series we will proudly say we've been obsessing over since Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, and Justin Min ended their first season run having found a way to both not save the world and be in the best position to save the world. Doesn't make sense? Not surprising, since that's how all of this wibbily-wobbly, timey-wimey stuff usually works. Suffice it to say, our heroes are going to get a chance to go back and make things right (or possibly make them horribly worse). Heading into the holidays, we got to watch them celebrate their horrific holiday sweaters as well as their characters' official Funko vinyl figures. In February, we saw the first batch of key art posters released, and then things got very quiet for a little while after that, understandable considering the current self-isolation and social distancing environment.

Spaceboy, The Kraken, The Rumor, The Séance, and Number Five need a new gameplan in The Umbrella Academy, courtesy of Netflix.

Last month, series creator and executive producer Steve Blackman took to Instagram to show the team working hard on post-production on the live-action adaptation of Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba's comic book series. Then earlier this week, Min offered us a personal glimpse into how ADR (Automated Dialog Replacement) recording was going (otherwise known as "looping"). Now, it's a look at what appears to be the season's episode titles and writers, thanks to the WGA site. We're avoiding assigning them specific episode numbers until they're confirmed, but the running order for the season could be as follows (with writers included): "743" (Bronwyn Garrity and Roberto Askins), "A Light Supper" (Aeryn Michelle Williams), "OGA for OGA" (Nikki Schiefelbein), "Right Back Where We Started" (Blackman), "The End of Something" (Blackman), "The Frankel Footage" (Mark Goffman), "The Majestic 12" (Garrity), "The Seven Stages" (Goffman and Jesse McKeown), "The Swedish Job" (McKeown), and "Valhalla" (Robert Askins). Just a quick reminder that all of this is unofficial until it's official, but they do have us curious.

Here's a Timely Look at The Umbrella Academy

Based on the graphic novels created and written by Way, illustrated by Ba, and published by Dark Horse Comics. Netflix's adaptation follows the estranged members of a dysfunctional family of superheroes consisting of Spaceboy (Hopper), The Kraken (Castañeda), The Rumor (Raver-Lampman), The Séance (Sheehan), and Number Five (Gallagher), as they work together to solve their father's mysterious death while coming apart at the seams due to their divergent personalities and abilities. Colm Feore (House of Cards) is world-renowned billionaire industrialist and eccentric inventor Sir Reginald Hargreeves; Jordan Claire Robbins as more-than-she-appears family matriarch Grace Hargreeves; and Adam Godley (Breaking Bad) as the voice of Pogo, a genetically engineered, tweed jacket-wearing, talking chimpanzee who is also the family advisor and mentor.

The Umbrella Academy also stars award-winning singer/actress Mary J. Blige (Mudbound) as ruthless, time-traveling hitwoman Cha-Cha; Cameron Britton (Mindhunter) as her deadly efficient partner Hazel; Ashley Madekwe (Revenge) as Detective Patch, a driven, fast riser within the police department investigating a series of murders and The Academy. John Magaro's(The Big Short) Leonard Peabody begins to take music lessons from Vanya and sees something special in this constantly dismissed wallflower, and Kate Walsh (Grey's Anatomy) as The Handler, the head of the Commission and Number Five's former boss.

Ritu Arya (Humans), Yusuf Gatewood (Good Omens), and Marin Ireland (Y: The Last Man) are confirmed for the second season's time-jumping adventure. Arya's Lila is a chameleon who can be as brilliant or as clinically insane as the situation requires. Unpredictable, mischievous and sarcastic, Lila's gifted with a twisted sense of humor. Gatewood's Raymond is a born leader with the smarts, gravitas, and the confidence to never have to prove it to anyone. He is warm, dedicated and has the innate ability to disarm you with a look. A devoted husband, he's the kind of guy everyone wants to know. Ireland's Sissy is a fearless, no-nonsense Texas mom who married young for all the wrong reasons. She's eager to rediscover what life and love have to offer while still in her prime.

The Umbrella Academy Star Justin Min Posts Season 2 Recording Update

Ever since the season wrapped on Netflix's The Umbrella Academy, we've been hunting down as many clues and updates as possible about the series' second-season return. During the holidays, we had the chance to see Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, and Justin Min celebrating horrific holiday sweaters and their official Funko vinyl figures. Great for them, and great for us because it gave us a glimpse at some on-set activity. In February, we saw the first batch of key art posters released, one which definitely showed that the "eyes" have it while asking one very important question: when are they? Things got quiet after that, which was understandable considering the current self-isolation and social distancing environment we've all been living in.

In mid-March, series creator and executive producer Steve Blackman took to Instagram to show the team working hard on post-production on the live-action adaptation of Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba's comic book series. Now, Min has taken to Instagram to offer fans a look at how things are going as he's secure in his closet for some ADR (Automated Dialog Replacement) recording, also known as "looping." After doing a little (10 seconds) of internet digging to answer the question some of you might be asking, ADR is re-recording audio in an environment that's more controlled and quieter. While usually done in a studio, tough times call for tough measure but the process is important to improve audio quality where needed, as well as add or change dialogue.

Here's a Look at the Past and Future of The Umbrella Academy

The Umbrella Academy is a 10-episode series based on the graphic novels created and written by Way, illustrated by Ba, and published by Dark Horse Comics. “The Umbrella Academy” Cast Takes Time-Out For Deeper Appreciation of Vinyl [VIDEO]

With production on the second-season of Netflix‘s live-action adaptation of Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba‘s comic book series The Umbrella Academy hurtling along at break-neck speeds, fans have already been introduced some of the new faces that will help – or hinder – the Hargreeves efforts to prevent the end of the world. Ritu Arya (Humans), Yusuf Gatewood (Good Omens), and Marin Ireland (Y: The Last Man) are set to join the successful series’ sophomore year return, which is expected some time in early-to-mid 2020).

Netflix/Funko

Now you would think going back in time to change the course of the Apocalypse (spoilers?) would take up a lot of their time, but the Hargreeves family’s real-life counterparts Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, and Justin Min were able to find some time for a little vinyl appreciation.

We’re talking Funko POP! vinyl figures, you perverts.

But that’s exactly what happened on set, and the moment was shared via Twitter in the form of a “family portrait” of the cast with their tiny counterparts. But since a still image isn’t quite the same as being there, there’s a also a video of the moment – our biggest takeaways from them both?

The team looks like they’re in some kind of “hairy beatnik” mode, and we are not surprised Sheehan’s figure was the only one out of its box.

Just seems right…

Here’s a look at the character breakdowns for the most recent additions:

● Arya’s Lila is a chameleon who can be as brilliant or as clinically insane as the situation requires. Unpredictable, mischievous and sarcastic, Lila’s gifted with a twisted sense of humor.

● Gatewood’s Raymond is a born leader with the smarts, gravitas, and the confidence to never have to prove it to anyone. He is warm, dedicated and has the innate ability to disarm you with a look. A devoted husband, he’s the kind of guy everyone wants to know.

● Ireland’s Sissy is a fearless, no-nonsense Texas mom who married young for all the wrong reasons. Still in her prime, she’s eager to rediscover what life and love has to offer.

In the following Instagram post from September, Steve Blackman (Fargo, Altered Carbon) threw some love at his creative team while also giving fans the heads-up that prep work on Episodes #206 and #207 was underway. Following that, series co-star Min posted what might just be the literal-with-a-capital-“L” definition of a “behind the scenes video” – though it could be the opening to a hard-hitting expose on the secrets of Sheehan’s set chair:

View this post on Instagram

netflix: we need quality bts. me: say no more.

A post shared by Justin H. Min (@justinmin) on

In June, Blackman posted an image of not only the first slate of filming but also a “family photo” of the show’s writers, actors, and artists (minus Min, which really does seem pretty ironic…). Though production was expected to start in May, a June start isn’t expected to impact the series’ early 2020 return.

Here’s a look at the cast’s announcement video for the start of table reads on the appropriately-titled “Right Back Where We Started,” directed by Sylvain White (The Americans, upcoming Amazing Stories):

The Umbrella Academy was given a 10-episode second season order in April 2019 – with Page, Hopper, Castañeda, Raver-Lampman, Sheehan, Gallagher, and Min reprising their roles.

Blackman returns as showrunner and executive producer, with Jeff F. King, Mike Richardson, and Keith Goldberg also returning to executive produce. Way and Bá will co-executive produce.

NOTE: Out of respect for those who are still watching or haven’t watched the first season, we’re going with descriptions that are still set for the first season (with some necessary adjustments):

The Umbrella Academy is a 10-episode series based on the graphic novels of the same name created and written by Way, illustrated by Ba, and published by Dark Horse Comics. Netflix’s adaptation follows the estranged members of a dysfunctional family of superheroes (The Umbrella Academy) — Spaceboy, The Kraken, The Rumor, The Séance, and Number Five — as they work together to solve their father’s mysterious death while coming apart at the seams due to their divergent personalities and abilities.

On the same day in 1989, forty-three infants are inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before. Seven are adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves, a billionaire industrialist, who creates The Umbrella Academy and prepares his “children” to save the world.

But not everything went according to plan.

In their teenage years, the family fractured and the team disbanded. Now, the six surviving thirty-something members reunite upon the news of Hargreeves’ passing. Luther, Diego, Allison, Klaus, Vanya and Number Five work together to solve a mystery surrounding their father’s death. But the estranged family once again begins to come apart due to their divergent personalities and abilities, not to mention the imminent threat of a global apocalypse.

“Rick and Morty” Season 4: Death Crystal Morty? Teddy Rick? There’s More! [SPOILERS]

With fans of Adult Swim‘s Rick and Morty now having an end month to look forward to after WarnerMedia’s 2019 May Upfronts saw Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland announce that their hit animated series would officially return November 2019, the excitement is starting to grow.

From just the Upfronts alone, there was the announcement about season 4 with an accompanying video (see below), and red carpet interviews with Harmon and Roiland that teased (jokingly?) a Rick and Morty future with Daniel Radcliffe and Kanye West in it. In late June, Adult Swim announced a second addition of its two-day festival in Los Angeles – which will be of particular interest to fans (more below).

rick and morty
Adult Swim

So now it looks like we all get to deep-dive into “mindless speculation” because we forgot about one thing: the side of the boxes! Previously, we posted about New York Comic Con‘s (NYCC) two Funko Exclusive 2019 Fall Conventon Limited Edition revealing Shrimp Rick and Shrimp Morty as serious season 4 character possibilities.

Well, our fine texting friend was nice enough to also send an image of the side of one of the boxes – which yields a nice, new handful of possibilities… SPOILERS!

fear the walking dead

rick and morty

Yes, that’s right: Hologram Rick (who clearly has something to say), Death Crystal Morty (ultimate Raven cosplay?), Kirkland Meeseeks (Costco-like chaos?), Teddy Rick (Creepy as f**k), and Wasp Rick (thinking there’s a connection to Shrimp Rick here).

Adult Swim

Harmon and Roiland are giving fans the opportunity to literally be in on the action by winning a chance to be drawn into a future Rick and Morty episode, hang out with the creators in studio, and help two great causes in the process. Between now and October 1, 2019, fan can head over to the campaign’s Prizeo page (here) to make a $10 donation and enter to win:

● An opportunity to be drawn into a future episode of Rick and Morty as a background character;

● Meet Roiland and Harmon;

● Tour the Rick and Morty production offices in Los Angeles;

● Take home a Rick and Morty merch bundle (so no stealing stuff off the walls!);

● Roundtrip airfare and hotel accommodations for you and a guest.

Here’s a look at more of the details, as well as a message from the Rick and Morty team and an overview of the two organizations that are benefitting from the donations: NEXT for AUTISM and Bergen County’s United Way.

Wubba lubba dub dub, friends!

At the end of Season 3 of Rick and Morty, there were some important questions left unanswered — Is Evil Morty coming back? Whatever happened to Morty Jr.? How’s Mr. Poopybutthole doing? The gag clauses in our contracts prevent us from sharing any details. But let’s just say it’s really weird and about to get a whole lot weirder. Want to see for yourself?

For only a $10 donation, you and a friend could win a trip to Los Angeles, meet creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, and tour the Rick and Morty production studio. Then, we’ll get you drawn into a future episode! You’ll also get to take home a Rick and Morty merch bundle! Airfare and hotel are included as well!

Your donation supports NEXT for AUTISM and Bergen County’s United Way, helping to transform the national landscape of services for people with autism. If you want to give more, you’ll get extra entries and score some cool Rick and Morty rewards!

It’s time to get schwifty in here! We can’t wait to meet you and a friend!

NEXT for AUTISM (formerly New York Collaborates for Autism) is a non-profit organization that strategically designs, launches and supports innovative programs to improve the lives of people living with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Bergen County’s United Way builds quality, affordable homes that empower individuals and families to live independently and thrive in the communities of their choice – offering more freedom to choose where to live, more mobility to access decent schools and jobs, and more opportunity to thrive with less income needing to be spent on the basic necessity of shelter.

To coincide with the show’s Comic-Con International: San Diego (SDCC) appearance during the summer’s ultimate “geekfest” (and only days after two images from the upcoming season were released and the creators discussed the new season), Rick and Morty fans were given their first look at the upcoming 10-episode season – and it involves apps, matching jumpsuits, what looks like a bad start-up, and a ton of slapping around:

buck rogers

Fans of Rick and Morty who plan on being in the Los Angeles area in mid-November have a chance at a very cool opportunity. The Adult Swim Festival (Friday, November 15 and Saturday, November 16 at Banc Of California Stadium in Los Angeles, California) will feature an exclusive, premiere screening of Rick and Morty‘s fourth season (though no word yet on if Dan Harmon and/or Justin Roiland will make an appearance).

Speaking of “Rick and Morty” Season 4…

In May 2018, Roiland took to Twitter to officially announce that the series had been renewed by Adult Swim – and what a renewal it was! We weren’t talking ten… twenty… even fifty episodes. Oh no, this order was for a whopping seventy episodes– which increases the chances of there being a Noob Noob solo episode that much more.

Not to be left out of the celebration, Harmon released his own shower-themed announcement and offered good tidings to the fans:

Nothing this big has ever been seen in my shower

If anyone thought Adult Swim had any doubts about their decision, the network cleared that up pretty quickly:

“Rick and Morty”: After Pickle Rick, Will Season 4 Bring… Shrimp Rick & Shrimp Morty?

So forgive us a little “mindless speculation” but with New York Comic Con (NYCC) right around the corner, the time is ripe for news on our favorite returning shows. In the case of Rickand Morty, that season 4 news might have come in the form of the show’s two Funko Exclusive 2019 Fall Conventon Limited Edition – which a friend of ours was kind enough to forward the images of… so SPOILERS follow.

Here’s how the previously unknown Funko POP! vinyl figures were initially promoted – followed by the reveal:

Are we looking at a fourth season that follows up on Pickle Rick with… Shrimp Rick and Shrimp Morty?

We referred to this as “mindless specualtion” because there’s always the possibility that these are just “cool concepts” for the line – but we’re not buying it.

● An opportunity to be drawn into a future episode of Rick and Morty as a background character;

● Meet Roiland and Harmon;

● Tour the Rick and Morty production offices in Los Angeles;

● Take home a Rick and Morty merch bundle (so no stealing stuff off the walls!);
