Funko’s Savage World Debuts with Mortal Kombat X!

Recently, rumors started floating around about a new line from Funko, one that was 5.5″, and paid homage to the art style of a certain muscle-bound hero from the 80’s.  Well, the rumors are true!  Funko has delivered with the first salvo in what promises to be a very lengthy campaign.  First up in this new line is Mortal Kombat X!  Let’s take a look.

The first wave of Savage World Mortal Kombat X figures contains five figures, and three, limited chase variants.  As of press time, we do not know the exact distribution on the chase figures, but if they’re like the Darkwing Duck variant showed previously, it’s going to be one per every six cases.  Happy hunting!

The figures themselves feature swivel neck, shoulder, and waist articulation.  The legs are ball joints, reminiscent of the old he-Man figures these are inspired by.  If I had any nit to pick here, its that  I wish the shoulders had ball joints as well.  This would’ve really helped with achieving some epic fighting poses.  The paint apps are neat and clean, and some figures ever feature multiple color casting, like as seen on Scorpion’s head, which really makes them pop.  Figures include accessories as shown.  One of the really fun aspects of these are their compatibility with vehicles and accessories from previous lines that are in this same scale.   Without further delay, let’s take a look at the figures!

Liu Kang

Liu Kang does not include accessories, other than his invisible can of whoop-ass.

Kitana

Includes fan weapons.

Sub-Zero

Includes Ice Sword and Hammer

Sub-Zero Chase Variant

Iced-out version

Scorpion

Includes Swords

Scorpion Chase Variant

Includes burning skull head.  FINISH HIM!!!

Raiden

Includes lightning bolts

Raiden Chase Variant

Electrified version

That’s all of them.  As cool as these are, I’m really excited to see what Funko has up their sleeves at toy Fair this year.  The mind boggles with the possibilities for the Savage World line!  Happy holidays everyone!  I’ll be back real soon with my end of the year top toys of 2017, and more sneek peeks in 2018!

‘Twas the Night Before Christmas on Hawkworld

Tim Board writes,

Merry Christmas, everybody. Just fooling around but here’s my version of “Twas the Night before Christmas”

“‘Twas the Night Before Christmas (Hawkman Version)”
By Clement Clarke Moore / Tim Board (Hawkworld Admin)

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a Thanagarian Snare Mouse;
The Funko Pop figures lined up on the mantle with care,
In hopes that Hawkman soon would be there;

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of Nth metal danced in their heads;
And mamma in her gown, and I in my Hawkman logo cap,
Had just settled down for a long winter’s nap

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I flew from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like The Flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the fresh-fallen snow
Gave the luster of Thanagar to objects below,
When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a superhero, with wings and a spear

With muscles rippling, so manly and all,
I knew in a moment it must be Carter Hall.
More rapid than lighting, the villains he did maim,
And he bellowed, and yelled, and called them by name;

“Now, Hath-Set! Now, Shadow Thief! Now, Lion-Mane and Byth!
Down, Gentleman Ghost! Down Fadeaway Man! Down, Hyathis!
Dare to challenge me! You’ve got the gall!
Now run away! Run away! Run away all!”

As feathers that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,
So away from our hero the villains they flew,
With bruises and blows, and wounded pride too.

And then, with a fluttering, I heard on the ground
The heavy boots of the Warrior pound.
As I drew in my hand and was turning around,
Crashing through the window Hawkman came in with a bound.

He was dressed all in green pants, but only a harness up top,
And his weapons were all tarnished with blood and whatnot;
Huge, massive wings he had strapped on his back,
And he looked like an archangel with demons to thwack.

His eyes — how they shone! His helmet how sleek!
His cheeks were unshaven, his nose like a beak!
His hard, stern mouth was drawn up in a grimace,
And the hair on his chest was as black as the furnace;

His Nth-metal mace he never let down,
And the helmet around his head like a crown;
He had a broad face and a tight hard belly,
That clenched and flexed, when he walked so steady.

He was massive and muscular, a Justice League warrior,
And I trembled when I saw him, in spite of my wonder;
A stare of his eyes and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to believe I had everything to dread;

He spoke not a word, but came to me like a bolt,
And shook my hand; then turned with a jolt,
And spreading his wings all gray and blue,
And giving a nod, out the window he flew;

He sprang to the sky, to his enemies he gave a shout,
And away they all flew like Man-hawks with a pout.
But I heard him exclaim, ere he flew out of sight,
HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO HAWKWORLD, AND TO HAWKWORLD A GOOD-NIGHT!

The Weekly Static S01E19: Cool Toys, a Legendary Jesus and XFL v2.0

fake news and more TV news

So it’s time for Father Christmas to give us some money, ’cause we don’t mess around with those silly toys. We’ll beat him up if he don’t hand it over. We want his cash so don’t make us annoyed, but he can give all the toys to…The Weekly Static!

Because it’s not really the holidays without some Kinks, right? So mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap, had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap. When out on the lawn there arose such a…

weekly static s01e09

The Weekly Static is our righteously desperate-yet-endearing attempt at finding the lighter side of and an interesting perspective on the past week in the land of the networks, cable, streaming, smoke signals, cloud formations, and shadow puppets.

Our goal? Pretty simple:

● Offer a blunt, honest perspective on a handful of random TV news posts from the past week that also highlights your relentless team of news-thirsty Bleeding Cool writers and the quality work they do. My views are my views and not a reflection of the opinions of those who wrote the article. Translation? I own what I say 110%.

● Spotlight a news item we missed, but we’re pretty damn sure you’ll find it interesting.

● Feed my insatiable ego with humble offerings of praise, adulation, social media shares, pizza, Superman Funkos, a plethora of Eisner Awards, at least one write-in vote in the 2020 U.S. Presidential Election (and I wish I was joking about that one) and a chance at twenty minutes of stand-up at Carolines’s on Broadway in NYC.

Just a quick heads-up… instead of going with something from the past week and television related, I’m taking a point of professional privilege and going with a news item that’s a little older but really, really important.

At a time when the media is constantly calling into question the validity of audience scores online, I think it’s important to remember that professional film reviewers have been and continue to be just as susceptible to manipulation as online audience scores are: except in this case, it’s Disney not liking what was being written about them so they locked out the L.A. Times from access to Thor: Ragnarok.

Though they eventually backed down, Disney’s message was clear:

F’ with The Mouse, and you can kiss your a(cce)ss goodbye.

Manipulation at its finest, folks…

The Controversy over Disney Blacklisting The LA Times, Explained

weekly static s01e19 toys jesus xfl

“As reviews of Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok began rolling out in advance of the movie’s November 3 release, a review from one news outlet in particular — the Los Angeles Times — was glaringly absent. And its editors didn’t hold back in explaining why.

In a simple “note to readers,” published November 3, the newspaper explained that it could not review Thor: Ragnarok prior to the film’s release — nor include it or the highly anticipated Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi in its annual entertainment Holiday Preview. The reason, the note said, is that Disney (which owns both Marvel and Lucasfilm) had barred LA Times critics from attending advanced press screenings of both movies — and, in fact, any Disney movies — in response to “unfair coverage.” (LA Times film critic Justin Chang only saw and reviewed Thor: Ragnarok once it was released to the public.)…”

Rick and Morty Season 3 Gets a Massive Wave of Funko Products

Rick and Morty Season 3 was an emotional affair. Now that it is over, Funko is giving us a plethora of new products based on mostly the Mad Max-style episode. Along with Pops, we will also be getting new Galactic Plush and Pop Rides!

Let’s dig in with the plushies first.

Still reeling for more Rick and Morty after the latest season of Adult Swim’s
critically acclaimed animated series?  Lucky for you, new Rick and Morty
Galactic Plushie XL, Pop! Rides and Pop! are coming soon!

One thing is for certain, do not call him snuffles – it’s Snowball
because his fur is pretty and white.
You can now have your very own Snowball!
 Snowball is now featured as a Funko Galactic Plushie XL.
Standing 12” tall, squeeze Snowball to hear all he has to say!

Don’t forget to look for these exclusive Rick and Morty Galactic Plushies XL!
At FYE you can find 16” versions of some of your
favorite Rick and Morty characters.

At Toys”R”Us you can find 16” Rick and Morty
with different facial expressions!

The giant Snowball is amazing; I need that. And I have seen the Toys ‘R’ Us Rick and Morty giant plush —  while they are not my thing, I get why people want them.

I am more interested in Pops. Pop Rides have gotten so much better since they were first starting to come out. These two are no different.

Funko Rick and Morty Mad max Rick Pop Ride

Mad Max Rick is now featured as a Pop! ride.
Add Rick to your collection as he outruns the Death-Stalkers
in the wastelands of a post-apocalyptic earth!

Look for Rick’s ship only at Hot Topic!

That Mad Max Rick Pop Ride is going to be a hot commodity. That thing looks like one hell of a sculpt. I love how Rick’s hair is flowing backwards in the breeze. Just superb. Of course, the ship will be in high demand — I wish it wasn’t an exclusive. But Hot Topic ones are usually a bit easier to obtain.

Finally we come to the Pops.

This series of Pop! features new characters and variants from season 3!
Including Prison Break Rick, Sentinent Arm Morty, Warrior Summer, and
leader of the Death-Stalkers, Hemorrhage.

Look for the bloody chase of Sentinent Arm Morty, a rarity of 1-in-6!

Look for Rick (Facehugger) only at GameStop!

Hemmorage looks awesome! I just wish you could lift his helmet. I also love that they made the facehugger Pop from that short that came out over the summer. Alien and Rick and Morty crossovers should be a regular thing. That is a perfect exclusive. All of these are great, although I can live with only getting the regular sentient arm Morty.

All of these products except the giant Snowball will be in stores in February. That will be later in the spring. You can preorder them now.
