BC Figure History Thursday: Winter Soldier!

Welcome to Figure History Thursday! Every Thursday, we will be going over the history of a character’s toy history, with a focus on action figures. Some characters have many toys made in their image, some only a few. Us collectors like to have them all, but sometimes it can be hard to know what is out there in which scales and price points. So, every week we will do a deep dive and show you what has been available and when, what you can expect to pay for it now, and more. This week’s first subject: Bucky Barnes, aka The Winter Soldier!

Re-introduced as the Winter Soldier in 2005 by Ed Brubaker, Bucky Barnes was the sidekick of Captain America for many years, before seemingly dying. Brubaker imagined he survived his brush with death, after being found by the Russians and turned into a Soviet assassin. After facing off with Cap a few times, his memories are restored and he even became Captain America for awhile when Steve was “dead”. He has appeared in numerous Marvel Comics this last decade, as well as being a huge fan-favorite character in the MCU films, played by Sebastian Stan.

As far as figures go, there are a few offerings we will be taking a look at here, both MCU and comic versions. Most Winter Soldier toys have been in the Marvel Legends line, where he has been released multiple times in many versions.

Marvel Select Comic Winter Soldier Marvel Select MCU Winter Soldier

Diamond Select Toys have released two Marvel Select figures: a comic version that was exclusive to the Disney Store, and a MCU Civil War version. The comic one comes with all kinds of cool accessories, and display pieces.

DST have also released many Minimates of Bucky, this one is my favorite. He has also been in a few LEGO sets, but this polybag version was a huge pain in the butt to get when it came out a few years back.

Of course, Funko has also released Winter Soldier products, including Pops, Dorbz, and even Pop Tees.

For all you higher end figure and statue collectors, Bowen, Iron Studios, Kotobukiya, and Hot Toys all have released many high priced Bucky collectibles. I personally have the Winter Soldier Hot Toys figure, and it is one of the centerpieces of my whole collection.

Winter Soldier Metal Figure

There has even been a Metals figure!

Winter Soldier Marvel Legends 1 Marvel Legends Civil War Winter Soldier Marvel Legends TRU Exclusive Winter Soldier Two Pack Marvel Legends TRU Exclusive Winter Soldier Two Pack 2 Avengers Infinity War Winter Soldier Falcon Marvel Universe Winter Soldier Hasbro Avengers Titan Heroes Winter Soldier

Finally, Hasbro has released Winter Soldier in many lines over the years, including the beloved Marvel Universe 3.75 inch line, and the Titan Hero Series. Marvel Legends have also been released, including a fan poll winning two-pack with Black Widow that was a Toys R Us exclusive. I never found either the regular or variant pack in stores. Maybe some day. The latest figure released was from Infinity War, where he came in a target two-pack with Falcon.
