Quite a few details on Season 2 of Stranger Things have been revealed today, and we now have a much better idea of what we will be seeing in October. Sadly (for now) there is still no word on what Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) will be up to, but we know she will be back in some way.
As we already know, Season 2 will pick up one year after the events of Season 1. It is Halloween, and the boys will be trick or treating as Ghostbusters (get on this Funko!), including Will (Noah Schnapp), who we last saw coughing up a weird slug-like creature after being rescued from the Upside Down. He is having visions, and as Matt Duffer (co-creator of the show) elaborates:
“He seems to be seeing images from the Upside Down—the question is whether they’re real or not,So it seems like he’s having some sort of post-traumatic stress disorder.”
Joyce is sadly not together with Sheriff Hopper (angry face emoji), but instead is in a relationship with new character Bob, played by Sean Astin. That choice seems to be about stability for her sons after what they went through and as Winona Ryder puts it “masking a lot”. Hopper himself is trying to cover up the events of Season 1, in order to keep Joyce and her sons safe. As David Harbour puts it:
“It kind of falls on Hopper to be the voice of authority to say, ‘This did happen and this didn’t happen. He’s struggling with the compromise that takes him to, having to lie and cover things up.”
Sorry Barb fans, it looks like the cover-up is on.
As far as the other young ones on the show, brother and sister Nancy (Natalia Dyer) and Mike (Finn Wolfhard) will be the most affected of the bunch from last season, as they deal with the deaths of Barb and Eleven. Ross Duffer (other co-creator) exlains:
“She and Mike are both the most screwed-up because they’re the ones who both lost someone. They’re both grappling with that, and we see the effects.”
Two more new arrivals to the cast will make life interesting in Hawkins. Brother and sister Billy (Dacre Montgomery) and Max (Sadie Sink) will be making their presence known in the town, with Max tagging along with the gang and being crushed on by Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) and Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin). Billy however, that’s a different story says Matt Duffer:
“Stephen King always has really great human villains. The evil in the real world is often as bad or worse than the supernatural evil, so we wanted to introduce a character like that.”
Meanwhile, the opening to the Upside Down is still there in the lab, which is now being overseen by Dr.Owens (Paul Riser). The creators also tese us that there will be more creatures this time around, but give us one last tease that Dustin will have a creature companion, or as Matarazzo puts it:
“It’s a little creature I get to bond with. It’s obviously not from this planet or this dimension.”
All of this info was revealed on Entertainment Weekly’s site today, ahead of their cover story this week. Below you can find that cover, along with some phots they released from season 2!
