“Stranger Things” are happening at Funko!

Funko is bringing the Netflix Original Series Stranger Things to collectors and fans in 2017! Coming in early next year, fans of this amazing show will be able to take home Pop! vinyl versions of their favorite characters, including Eleven, Mike, Dustin, Lucas, Will, Barb, and, of course, the terrifying Demogorgon from the Upside Down!

In September, Funko posted two concept images of Eleven and Barb in an effort to gauge the interest of fans and customers. The images – which were shared on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram – resulted in a huge amount of interest from fans around the world with everyone saying one thing: “When can we get these?!”

“Bringing Stranger Things to Funko is symbolic of our connection to our customers as mutual fans of pop culture”, said Mark Robben, Funko’s Director of Marketing. “We feel grateful for the privilege to create our version of these wonderful characters, but we never forget it starts with the collectors. These figures would not have been possible without every single share, like, and comment from you. Friends don’t lie.”

The Stranger Things figures are available for pre-order now and should hit retail shelves in early 2017 with an MSRP of $9.99 USD. Pop! vinyl figures are sculpted vinyl collectibles, approximately 3-4” inches high and packaged in a windowed display box.

Batman’s Foes Take Charge in Legion of Collectors Promo

Batman’s Foes Take Charge in Legion of Collectors Promo

“Batman’s” enemies are the stars of the animated teaser for Funko’s next DC Legion of Collectors mystery box, and, and boy are they out for revenge. Adorable revenge.

RELATED: “Batman: The Animated Series” is Coming to Funko’s Pop! Line

The vinyl Pop! villains have the caped crusader exactly where they want him in the 30-second short — hanging bound from a rope dangling over vats of mysterious green smoking liquid. But despite taunts from Joker and Catwoman, the Dark Knight avoids a dunking when a Two-Face drops his coin and pulls a lever to bring the Legion of Collectors Batman villains box crashing down instead.

While the exact contents of the box are, of course, a mystery, the Legion of Collectors website assures fans it contains DC Comics and Funko collectibles valued at $50. Previous boxes have included T-shirts, limited-edition DC comic books, pins, badges and, of course, exclusive Funko figures.

However, if you want to grab one, you will have to move fast: The deadline for the Batman Villains box expires at midnight PST on Nov. 1. That’s tomorrow, mind you.

Funko and DC partnered in January to launch the Legion of Collectors subscription box service, a year after the company teamed with Marvel Comics for Marvel Collector Corps.

Stranger Things is Getting the Funko Pop! Treatment

Stranger Things is Getting the Funko Pop! Treatment

Having a hard time waiting for the second season of “Stranger Things”? So is Funko, which is releasing an extensive series of vinyl figures based on the hit Netflix series as part of its Pop! line.

Typically, a television series will receive a few figures of the most popular characters, with maybe a variant or two. However, someone at Funko must really love “Stranger Things,” because it’s getting 10 figures.

RELATED: It’s a “Stranger Things” Christmas in This Delightful “Peanuts” Parody

Entertainment Weekly has the first look at the toys, which include not one version of Eleven but three: There’s the Eggo-wielding, nose-bleeding version of course, and there’s also a blonde wig variant (also with Eggos but sans nose bleed), and then one featuring Hawkins’ favorite psychic in her diving helmet, ready to enter the traumatic sensory-deprivation chamber.

stranger-things1stranger-things2

For fans desperate for #JusticeForBarb, Funko has you covered. The breakout favorite of the cast has huge glasses, and her vinyl freckles are somehow really cute.

All of the boys are getting figures, too: Mike with his walkie-talkie, Dustin with his signature hat and his compass, Lucas with his awesome bandanna and binoculars, and Will with his goofy ’80s haircut. If you prefer Will to be traumatized (or if you’re just a completist), there’s also an Upside Down variant of Will, looking practically zombified.

Finally, there’s the Demogoron. There are two photos of the Demogorgon — one in a monstrous repose, the other with its alien mouth wide open. The two pictures share a series number (428), so it’s unclear whether these are two variant figures, or if the monster’s mouth can somehow articulate.

If you were waiting for Joyce, Jonathan, Nancy, Chief Hopper or another one of your favorite “Stranger Things” character,s you’ll need to keep waiting for a second series of vinyl figures. In the meantime, these will all be available in early 2017.

Marvel To Issue More X-Men Licenses For 2017

img_5408Panini have the license to republish Marvel Comics titles in Europe, both on newstand and collected in bookstores.

Marvel UK/Panini have a wide range of trade paperbacks for sale, sometimes differing from the US versions, but they have very few books with the word X-Men in the title. There’s a couple of monthly comics, but as for collections, they aren’t allowed to, though Deadpool, Wolverine and AVX  snuck through. Regular readers might have an inkling as to why.

img_5409

Well, I hear at MCM London Comic Con, that next year that is changing. And Marvel UK/Panini will once again be able to publish X-Men collections of next year. Just in time for ResurrXion.

Along with these Funko Pop vinyls, it does seem to be a sign that restrictions that saw posters, statues, T-shirt and other licenses removed in the way of Marvel’s contre temps with Fox, are on the wane.

Marvel Comics are pushing an X-Men publishing relaunch in the spring of next year and have promoted Fox’s upcoming X-Men TV shows in a way they haven’t done for Fox’s X-Men movies – which they all but ignored.

This also comes at a time with the Marvel company is divided against itself, with the Marvel Studios film brand separated from the rest of Marvel, reporting directly to Disney instead.

It appears that the enemy if my enemy is, once again, your friend.

Does Patrick Hess Like To See Fady Suffer? The Class Panel At MCM London Comic Con

img_5456

The cast and crew of Class came to MCM London Comic Con with Patrick Hess, Greg Austin, Fady Elsayed, Sophie Hopkins, Vivian Adeola and Jordan Renzo. So we all got to see the third episode on the big screen, which hit the BBC iPlayer this morning.

And everyone seems to be very happy with the reception the show has received. As Patrick Hess said “even the Daily Mail like us, though maybe not after that.” There was a fair bit of male-on-male action after all.

But Vivian Adeola received the most praise for the episode we saw, an emotionally wrenching show that saw he confronted with her dead father – and the episode made sure to take us through that journey from life to death, giving us a similar experience.

Hess talked about wanting to make a sophisticated show that audiences would not expect to find sitting on the iPlayer on a Saturday morning. Something for an audience who watches HBO, who has a wide movie watching experience.

Fady Elsayed talked about how his believes Hess is deliberately torturing his character, Ram, emphasising the blood of his girlfriend on his face, and tapping his leg… though it was pointed out that his new relationship with April might change that – as something the audience wasn’t expecting.

On that topic, when asked who of the rest of the cast the cast ship, Greg Austin promised that in Series 2 of Class, he and Jordan are  going to try and turn Fady. While Sophie Hopkins wants to ship Corikanus and her dad – in the show. We think.

As for more Doctor Who crossovers, don’t expect anything big? Hess stated how Class has to stand on its own rather than crossover, but there are all sorts of lines and dots you can connect.

The cast talked about a kinship between them on the show, more than in other shows they have worked on. And promised that there was so much laughing and japes that it is bound to leak out onto social media in the next few weeks.

The question was asked, since sixth form lasts two years, how will Class last longer that two series? Hess replied with questions “how long does a series last? Could we have something mega clever in mind for season three?”

He also talked about how important for him the Corikanus/Matteusz relationship was on screen, something he didn’t get to see when he was the target audience’s age and would have really benefitted from.

And they all want action figures and Funko Pop vinyls…. with the response the show got in the room at MCM, they’ll get them.

Batman Hangs In The Balance As DC Teases New Legion Of Collectors Box

Funko and DC have released a new teaser trailer for their upcoming DC Legion of Collectors box focused on Batman Villains. Being this is a random surprise subscription box, they don’t tell you what’s in it, instead they have a fun little seen with Pop! versions of the Joker, Catwoman, Two-Face and the Riddler holding Batman hostage in a precarious and perilous trap… like you do.

I like that the decided to focus on Batman Villains and not just Villains as it leaves it open to have a box with a Rogues theme or Superman Villains theme… I’m looking forward to this box.

Do Funko X-Men Figures Signal The End Of The CompleX?

funko_mysteryThe CompleX is the theory that Marvel Comics is deliberately not pushing or promoting the X-Men line, as the movie/TV and related licensing rights are controlled by Fox Studios, and Marvel Comics isn’t interested in giving that any push.

This exhibits itself in a reduction in X-Men comics being published and their prominence in promotion – their absence even. That licensing is banned or severely restricted, and no cartoons are being produced. And while not as restrictive as the impositions made upon Fantastic Four-related, they have been reported as being imposed by above.

Fox does not receive a cut of Marvel’s comics-based or animation-based X-Men or FF licensing, it’s more about personal politics.

It was explained to me by a senior Marvel executive as more Marvel concentrating on Marvel Studios properties than actively not promoting the others. But it has led to the ridiculous state of X-Men and Fantastic Four characters – even the mention of them – being removed from collections, games, T-shirts and calendars. or statues being halted in mid-production.

Of late , however, relations between Marvel Comics and Marvel Studios have become far frostier. An relations with Fox, certainly regarding the TV series, has suddenly become something verging on the cordial.

And suddenly the leading pop vinyl brand of toys, Funko, has a whole line of X-Men related toys focused on the very nineties iterations that next years ResurreXion titles seem to be clustering around. Their first X-Men figures since… 2014?

Is this the end of the CompleX? At least as far as nineties X-Men go?
