Bond…James Bond To Take Over Stores Shelves From Funko

Bond is one of those licences that they are very protective over. There should really be more stuff out there. I am also astonished that it took this long for Funko to get their hands on this one. But, they always do. And now we are going to get tons and tons of 007 Pops, and I am sure other products.

Some of the best-looking Funko Pops ever. I say that a lot these days, but how perfect do these look? Fun idea to focus on the villains for the first wave. They could have easily just phoned it in and given us eight versions of James. Out of the villains, Jaws is the best. But Blofled with his cat is so iconic, I guess fans will have to get both. I have always been more partial to James in his white tux, and boy does he look sharp here. The red rose accent is perfect.

James Bond Funko Pop Exclusives

Exclusives are a part of every Funko wave, and these will be no different. Oddjob tossing his hat will be at target. We also get two different versions of 007. Octopussy Bond at Barnes and Noble, and Dr. No Bond at Toys R Us.

I am also a little shocked that our current 007 Daniel Craig is not in this first run. But no worries, I am sure there will be many more waves. Mystery Minis will happen as well, and we will get one for each. They also teased that a Pop Ride will be coming.

Can You Really Get A Refund On NYCC Exclusives That Weren’t Exclusive? Yes.

Okay, I get the feeling that this could be one of those articles that might be a case of lighting the touchpaper and running away very quickly as everything explodes around us. Be warned.

It is incredibly common for publisher, manufacturers, broadcasters, creators to offer special items at shows and call them exclusives to the show. SDCC Exclusive, NYCC exclusive, you know the kind of thing. Loot Crate is full of items that are exclusive to them. But… often they are suddenly no longer exclusive, The week after, they are selling them in their online store, or they pop up at subsequent shows, or even get listed in Diamond Previews for anyone to order.

And until now, those who had ponied down cash, airfare, hotels and tickets to be privileged to line up for several hours in a sweltering/freezing/smelling of popcorn line to pay over the odds to acquire such a gem have just had to growl, grimace, shitpost and complain.

Until now.

Because on a Loot Crate subgroup on Reddit, someone found another way. When complaining about Loot Crate selling some of their NYCC Exclusive items in their online store Loot Vault, less than a week after the show, discounted even, one enterprising buyer called Roquen22 complained – not to Loot Crate, not to NYCC, but their bank.

Armed with an advertisement promising the item as an NYCC exclusive, his receipt of purchase, and a current listing for the item, the bank initiated a chargeback and he was refunded in full, as the item was “not as described”. While still keeping the item he had purchased.

That’s a gamechanger. It means that if you say something is exclusive to a show and then offer it elsewhere, you risk chargebacks on every one you sold at the show.  Now chargebacks aren’t available forever. Typically they are 120 days from purchase. So that gives people a four month window. Also a number of companies have started selling what they call “Convention Exclusives”, no longer exclusive to one specific convention, but may appear at subsequent shows. And that may be the easiest way out. But you know, that 120-day window still covers this year’s San Diego Comic-Con – though Funko might get away with it saying they advertised them as available elsewhere before going on sale, with Mattel it’s not so clear. And all these HASCON exclusives from Hasbro too…

And now it’s on Bleeding Cool, expect more “Non-Specific Convention Exclusives”, maybe some clarity in the language “These items may have limited amounts made available online after the show” or “New York Comic Con Debuts” would cover it. Or they could discount sales towards the end of the show to clear stock – or burn/recycle/nuke from space what is left.

There’s also a vulnerability from subscription boxes who commission an exclusive item but the manufacturer then goes ahead and sells it elsewhere anyway.

But selling NYCC exclusives from your own online store the day after the show? With one move, with one realisation, with a sudden measure of accountability imposed by the purchaser through existing consumer protection measure, that’s gone, forever.

And all because of a glittery Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.

Funko’s Disney Afternoon Action Figures Sneek Peek!

When Funko announced last week that they would be producing action figures from a variety of great Disney cartoons of yesteryear, little did I know that they would show up on my doorstep days later!  Before we get into the nostalgic awesomeness, I’d like to thank Funko for the opportunity to give you fine folks a peek at what they’ve got in store.  I think you’ll agree, Funko really hit these out of the park.

The set consists of six carded figures, all in the 4″ scale range (which means they’ll fit in perfectly with your old Darkwing Duck figures!), and feature a nice range of articulation.  The original Negaduck (Darkwing Duck black & white repaint) is a chase figure, which Funko states is found “one of out every six”.  Hopefully he won’t be too hard to find for fans.  Let’s also hope this is just the first of many series for this line, because they are on another level for Funko.  They’ve really elevated their game here; these are gorgeous.  Aside from the clean paint apps and sharp sculpts, I’m impressed at the level of personality the sculpts convey.  Let’s check them out!

Baloo from Talespin

Baloo stands the tallest of the bunch, and includes a ball jointed head, pin and disk ball joint shoulders, elbows, waist (cleverly hidden), and cut leg joints.  Let’s hope the artwork on the back of the card foreshadows future cast mates from the show.

Scrooge McDuck from DuckTales

Uncle Scrooge includes his trademark cane and a bag of cold hard cash.  His spectacles are a separate piece of clear cast plastic, and they look great.  He features a ball jointed head, pin and disk ball joint shoulders, elbows, waist, and cut leg joints.  Clearly we need his nephews Huey, Dewy,and Louie!

Chip and Dale (with Zipper) from Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers

Both Chip and Dale feature swivel heads, pin and disk ball joint shoulders, elbows, waist, and cut leg joints.  Zipper is included as an accessory with Dale.  It would be nice to get a 2 pack with Gadget Hackwrench and Monterey Jack (hint hint Funko!)

Darkwing Duck

Darkwing is easily my favorite of the bunch.  He includes his trusty gun and features a swivel head, pin and disk ball joint shoulders, elbows, waist, and cut leg joints.  His cape is a flexible rubber.  The chase figure for this series is the original black and white Negaduck!  I can see the second Negaduck being another repainted exclusive down the line as well.  Let’s hope Funko doesn’t make us wait too long to get a Launchpad!
