Spider-Man is one of the most popular characters in comic book history. And across all the films, comics, TV shows and games we’ve seen hundreds of different looks for the wall-crawler. Some have become just as iconic as the original red and blue costume, like Miles Morales’ red and black suit. In each of the movies, we’ve seen Peter designing his new costume or tinkering with his current one. Because of the type of hero that he is, artists have a lot of free rein with the character. Comics gave us the Symbiote black suit, the Iron Spider costume and then there’s the Spider-Verse, in which resides hundreds of different versions of our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, some great and some not so much.

Thankfully, fan artists can create some incredible pieces of work that play up on the different aspects of Peter Parker. For example, many have used the free running/parkour aspect of his heroics and incorporated that into his suit. But there’s really an endless stream of ideas that can come with Spidey. Be it an Iron Spider reimagining, a modern Symbiote costume or even something more horrifying. Quick disclaimer, these aren’t in order of rank — they’re all incredible. Here are 15 crazy spectacular fan-designed Spider-Man costumes.
MCU SYMBIOTE SUIT
So far, Spider-Man’s appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe twice, with his solo film Spider-Man: Homecoming giving us a proper introduction to the small-time hero. We know there are plans for a solo Venom movie coming, but surely that means we need to see a symbiote in the Spidey films soon. So Brandon Chen came up with an idea of what the symbiote suit could look like in the MCU.
And it sure is intimidating. With the texture and the way the white emblem wraps around the body — the suit almost looks like a military design. And with the eyes especially, it looks like a scaled down version of the Agent Venom suit. This is one design we’d absolutely love to see in live action. Plus, seeing Tom Holland’s angry version of his Peter would make some excellent screen time.
STEAMPUNK SPIDEY
Steampunk adaptations of characters have been going around fan sites for some time, and this Victorian era Spider-Man is one that really stands out. It’s a simple version of Peter Parker’s iconic suit, using gold goggles as the eye pieces. It’s like the basic suit from Spider-Man: Homecoming was rolled back 200 years. Maybe it’s the gloomy background, but this neatly dressed hero looks surprisingly creepy.
We like the shirt and waistcoat incorporated together to bring together the costume. We like that his mask isn’t quite perfect, as it looks to tie around the back of his head. The paisley patterns that cover the red fabric are also a neat translation of the usual web design to something matching the 1800s. But it’s the slight imperfections that brings out the attention to detail from the artist, Gimaldinov.
INJUSTICE 2 SPIDER-MAN
This version of Peter Parker’s costume takes its cues from Injustice 2 according to artist iBralui. And it’s easy to see where the inspiration has come from. The DC fighting game incorporated characters like Firestorm and Green Lantern with face wrapping masks, and those designs have clearly influenced this vision of Spider-Man. His suit feels very tactical, and looks armored.
This would probably be useful for Spidey going up against the Ultimate Green Goblin or some of his other larger villains like the Rhino. It’s a vibrant design that blends modern looks with the classic colors — but also bringing its own unique take on the character. The bug eyes from his usual suit have been translated into goggles here, and they look fantastic. The Spider-emblem is a little different than usual, but still looks pretty cool.
2099 FREE RUNNER
This is one of our favorite designs on the list. When Miguel O’Hara first debuted in the ‘90s, fans went crazy for him and his different Spider-Man suit. But this new take on the costume brings us to a whole new level of excitement. It’s like Spider-Man 2099 meets InFamous crossed with Splinter Cell, but as a bike messenger. Right?
The suit looks extremely practical, with the main blue and red body looking like a cycling jacket — whilst the armored parts would protect Spidey when he’s swinging. The bag is also a neat addition, but then there’s the eyes. They’re an extremely clever way of bringing the Spider-emblem to the suit whilst also incorporating them into the iconic bug eyes with a 2099 twist. If there’s ever a live action 2099 adaptation — use anjinanhut’s design, it’s great.
NO SPIDER-EMBLEM
Who needs a logo anyway? This design plays up on the absence of the spider, but brings a whole other impressive design to the suit. With the off center webbing pattern, it makes the colors of the suit the main focus rather than any pesky emblem. This looks like the type of Spider-Man that’s a little more use to free running in his early career with the addition of those knee pads.
How many times has he scraped them hurling himself towards buildings and villains at extreme speeds? The mask looks cool, embracing a minimal design but also looking like a cross between a Spider-Man POP! Funko figure and Deadpool — but in a good way. The artist, Dragonalth, has created a unique costume that strives to draw attention to the colors of Spidey’s iconic suit.
WHITE EMBLEM SUIT
There’s going to be a new Spider-Man game coming to PS4 in 2018, and in the E3 trailer we got a glimpse of the new suit. It made a change to the classic costume and brought in a huge white Spider-emblem instead of the typical black one. And thanks to Matthew Warlick, we’re able to see what the comics equivalent could look like when he entered a Spider-Man redesign contest.
The white emblem makes up the upper torso part of the suit and looks impressive as the red mask and shoulders emerge from it. The huge bug eyes look great, and very similar to the Ultimate Spider-Man run of comics from the early 2000s. There’s not too much red in this costume, but the bits that are stand out more because of that.
REMIXED SPIDER-MAN
This remixed version of Spider-Man looks almost alien in this piece by Igneous Art. Perhaps that’s because of the multiple domed eyes on the mask, but it makes him look otherworldly. It also makes us wonder what the practical effects of those are. If it’s a technologically advanced suit, are those part of his heads up display? Who knows.
The thing we love the most is the way the Spider-emblem hangs down from the upper portion of the costume, bringing the bright red color with it. The way the red curls around his fingers looks very similar to Andrew Garfield’s Amazing Spider-Man costume, but with a little flair to it. The colors of the suit make it stand out, as this feels like a younger Parker coming up to the prime of his crime fighting career.
MOUTHLESS MASKED SPIDEY
This Ben Reilly-esque design puts an interesting twist on his Spider-Man costume. It still uses the huge Spider-emblem flowing across the chest, but it makes the red overshirt look almost like a biker jacket. The mask leaves the mouth uncovered, allowing Ben to actually convey emotions a little easier when he’s fighting villains and saving loved ones.
Although this would definitely make it easier for someone to figure out the person underneath the mask. It also looks slightly similar to luchador wrestling masks, which could be a nice callback to the first time Peter put on his costume. The suit also leaves out the typical web design covering the red and blue, going for a minimalist approach. Although the few lines on Ben’s head help give the suit a bit of texture, it’s a flashy looking costume by Kid Oblivion.
SLIMLINE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN
The first Amazing Spider-Man film gave fans a very different look for Peter Parker, focusing on the homemade suit, although it still looked like something only Sony could make. This suit by RtRadke takes us back to that first film. It’s definitely a younger Pete, just by the smaller size of him. And by the color of the eyes, it looks like he has the same sunglasses style visors that we saw in that first film.
With the large Spider-emblem and the ninja-toe feet, this suit could easily be something that Pete wore in-between the first and second film. The gloves look a little bit homemade, but side from that it’s quite similar to several suits that we’ve seen previously, but with a slimline twist.
BLACK AND RED EMBLEM SHIFTED SPIDER-MAN
After the death of Peter Parker (it’s not a spoiler it happened years ago!), Miles Morales took on the mantle of Spider-Man. But when he donned a red and blue costume he was told it was out of taste and got a redesigned version instead. This new version of Miles’ costume shifts the red triangular patterns on his suit into a second Spider-emblem across his chest.
It also pushes the red up onto his eyes and because of the black mouth shape that forms between the two red portions of the mask, the outcome looks like the Spider-Man equivalent of Spawn. There’s no Spider-emblem on the back of the suit, instead opting for a connecting band from the front emblem, which is a slick choice by ojos-aka. We love the individual red fingers like the Morales costume.
THE IRON SPIDER
During the “Civil War” event by Mark Millar, Peter got his very own Iron Man costume dubbed the “Iron Spider”. Guy Bourraine Jr. designed this heavily detailed version of the Iron Spider costume to like a suit that could fit into the MCU. It’s mainly a red armored suit, with the gold rods as an extra exo-suit on top.
The artist specified that these rods would shift and move to give Peter the ability to use extra strength if he needs to. The side profile gives us a detailed look at the helmet, and it definitely resonates with the MCU Iron Man designs that we’ve seen before, although it’s definitely a little slicker than the bulkier Iron Man suits Stark utilizes across the films. This suit would definitely make Peter more formidable than he already is.
PRACTICAL SUIT
This suit definitely channels the Homecoming hoodie suit that Parker resorts to after Tony takes the Stark suit away. The main body of the suit is made up of a red and blue hoodie with a mismatched spider drawn over the top of it. Whilst the mask looks like a red balaclava with the goggles fixed over the top. They’re not quite attached to the suit though, because we can see a strap fixed around Pete’s head.
The backpack he’s wearing also brings it back to Peter’s high school days. The suit drawn by TheKid221 is a wonderfully simple take on the character, and the artist mentions that it also slightly references Deadpool. Especially since his mask has the pointed top, like that of the Merc with the Mouth.
ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN
If Spider-Man really started to clock hours into the gym as well as his superheroics, he would become this “Ultimate” Spider-Man by Furqan Adil. He’s a physically imposing figure, and with the angle of the eyes and the way they’re positioned — he looks intimidating. The costume gets rid of the typical blue color, instead going for a silver that dominates the main body.
The suit also uses a brighter white for the Spider-emblem in the middle of the chest, really drawing attention to it. This is the type of suit that an agency like S.H.I.E.L.D. would give out to Spidey if he was part of their organization. The metallic look of the costume certainly seems like it could take some heavy duty damage during fights. We wouldn’t want to get on the wrong side of this wall-crawler.
SPIDER-CAP
What would happen if Spider-Man became Captain America? Well, it would probably look something like this. Tloessy designed four different styles that a patriotic Spider-Man could look like. Incorporating the classic Cap look with the iconic Spider-Man costume. The star emblem mixed with the spider works brilliantly.
But the callbacks to the Bucky version of Captain America using the black legs and red boots are a clever touch. We love that Cap’s red gloves have been used as Spider-Man’s red arms with webbing over the top. The purely white eyes without the webbing look a little more tactical than the other suits. All four variants look incredible. You might have seen this one before, that’s because some cosplay companies have used it as the basis for morphsuits.
MAN-SPIDER
Well, this is slightly terrifying. We’ve all read the comics where Spider-Man turns into a literal spider right? Well, this version shows us what that would look like in his classic colors. Just because he’s in the iconic red and blue, doesn’t mean that this is your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. With the extra eyes along with the claws, this Spider-Man looks more like a villain than a hero.
The extra limbs coming from his shoulders would no doubt be used in combat (as well as wall-crawling). There’s also a cave with eggs in the background — let’s hope that Peter didn’t lay those. New York definitely isn’t ready for this monstrous Spider-Man to be let loose on the city. It’s still an impressive piece by Veronika Koslova, as part of the Comic Con challenge.
