Hasbro Relaunching Mighty Muggs Figures in 2018

Hasbro’s popular Mighty Muggs vinyl figures have been missing from store shelves for several years, but the line will be making a triumphant return in 2018.

The company’s new line of figures will include some of the most popular Marvel and Star Wars characters, but with a new twist. These new figures will have a suggested retail price of $9.99 USD and have a brand new push-and-turn feature to change the character’s facial expressions.

IGN debuted the fist photos of the toys, which are set for a January 2018 release. The Marvel set includes Spider-Man, Captain America, Groot and Black Widow. The Star Wars set has Darth Vader, Rey, Kylo Ren, Princess Leia, and Luke Skywalker. Other figures are on the way, including a Deadpool toy slated for a Spring 2018 release, which has been previewed on Marvel’s Twitter, along with the figures’ new face-changing feature.

Hasbro’s initial collectible vinyl toy series proved to be very popular with collectors, featuring franchises like Star Wars, Marvel Comics, Indiana Jones, G.I. Joe and Transformers. The company expanded into smaller versions called Mini Muggs and even blank Mighty Muggs for customization.

The line of toys has been commercially discontinued for several years, though Hasbro has produced Comic Con exclusive figures during that time. The return to retail is likely a response to the success that Funko has seen with its Pop! vinyl line of toys.

NYCC: Funko Unveils Exclusive Batman Pop!s & More

Funko has unveiled a slew of new DC Comics offerings, which will be available exclusively at this October’s New York Comic Comic. The new line of collectibles features several Pop! vinyls, including an 8-Bit Batman, a First Appearance Superman and a Black Chrome Batman.

The 8-Bit Batman wears a classic blue and grey costume but is rendered as an 8-bit sprite just like a video game character, while the Black Chrome Batman sports a shiny black chrome finish. The First Appearance Superman figure plays homage to the character’s first appearance in Action Comics #1 with its small S-shield and classic red trunks.

The classic Batman television series from the ’60s is also represented in these offerings. Funko will offer a new color variant for the 1966 Batmobile action figure set that includes an Adam West Batman figure, as well as a Dorbz: Batman Classic TV Series Villains 3-pack of vinyl figures. The Dorbz collection will include King Tut, the Riddler and Mr. Freeze.

Funko has also introduced New York Comic Con exclusives for Game of Thrones and WWE’s Zack Ryder.

This year’s New York Comic Con takes place Thursday, October 5 through Sunday, October 8 at the Jacob K Javits Convention Center in Midtown Manhattan.

Thor: Ragnarok Toy Seems to Confirm Major GOTG Vol. 2 Connection

SPOILER WARNING: The following article contains potential spoilers for Thor: Ragnarok, in theaters November 3.

Marvel has big plans for the cosmic side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and a new Thor: Ragnarok Funko figure seems to add plenty of fuel to the speculation fire, with a possibly huge spoiler.

In the description for this toy (via MCU Exchange), Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster is described as a “Celestial,” forming a direct connection with Kurt Russell’s Ego the Living Planet from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Considering that the Grandmaster and Collector are supposed to be related, it would seem that we have three confirmed “Celestials” in the MCU.

Of course, things are different in the comics, because the Grandmaster, Collector, and Ego are all Elders of the Universe, rather than Celestials. The Celestials are god-like beings who have the power to experiment with life across the universe.

Regardless of what Marvel decides to call them, it is clear that Marvel is planning something big with these entities — but if they continue to play a role in the Guardians of the Galaxy film series or show up in Avengers: Infinity War remains to be seen.

The Grandmaster will make his film debut on November 3, 2017. Director Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Karl Urban as Skurge, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/the Hulk and Anthony Hopkins as Odin.

This Justice League Superman Spoiler Probably Isn’t Real…

SPOILER WARNING: The following article might contain a major spoiler for the Justice League film. Or not.

We could have a major spoiler for the upcoming Justice League movie, or we might just have a very over zealous copy writer out there.

Pop culture merchant SuperHero Stuff recently added a Superman Pop! figure to its site with a description that includes what appears to be a major spoiler for the movie.

According to the website, Batman, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, and Flash won’t be able to hold back the invading Parademon army, led by an axe-wielding Steppenwolf, until Superman arrives. Then, the item description gets oddly specific.

LOOK! UP IN THE SKY! Is that…is that Superman?? IT IS! It’s the Superman Justice League Movie Funko Pop Vinyl Figure and it resurrected itself moments before Steppenwolf skewered Wonder Woman with a hefty chunk of Venezuela!

Sure, it’s probably a joke, because there’s no way Steppenwolf is picking up part of an actual country, but the copy does make reference to several interesting moments.

Obviously, we all know Superman is returning from the demise he suffered at the end of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. It doesn’t make sense for Warner Bros. to keep one of their heaviest hitters on the sidelines for long, and the character has been featured in multiple marketing promotions.

SuperHero Stuff could also be referring to an event that took place in recent comic books. In James Robinson and Nicola Scott’s Earth 2 #1 from 2012,  Wonder Woman suffers a similar fate where Diana is actually skewered and killed by Steppenwolf. In fact, the film’s storyline of an invasion from Apokolips seems to be incredibly similar to the Earth 2 set-up.

Could Justice League see the resurrection of the Man of Steel just in time to save Wonder Woman from certain death? We’ll just have to wait until the film debuts to find out.

Justice League arrives November 17, 2017. The film will star Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Willem Dafoe as Vulko, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta and J. K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon.
