From The Rumor Mill: Are We Getting A New “Crash Bandicoot” Game?

If you believe the latest rumors circling the internet this week, it seems like we may be getting a new Crash Bandicoot game next year. At least, that’s what people are gleaming from the latest product announcement from Funko that seemed pretty well-timed so close to The Game Awards.

Credit: Activision

Yes, the fact that Funko are releasing some Crash Bandicoot items for Christmas has got everyone in a tizzy that a new game will be announced soon. It makes some sense, as Activision pulled the same trick last year with Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled. But is it possible they’d pull it off again?

We’re guessing no, for now. Because if Activision did have another game in the works, they’d need more time to produce the thing so shortly after the last game. At best, maybe a teaser, but we’re guessing nothing is on the way for 2020.

“Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?” 50th Anniversary Blu-Ray [REVIEW]

When you have a cartoon series that lasted in pop culture as long as Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? has, you have to go big on the anniversaries. Warner Bros. Home Entertainment decided to go big for the latest anniversary to the classic cartoon series with a special edition Blu-ray. The official title of this thing is Scooby-Doo Where Are You?: The Complete Series Limited Edition 50th Anniversary Mystery Mansion. Yes, that is the real super-extended name of this collection, which we received a copy of and were excited to pop in and watch.

scooby doo

Going over the box first, let’s just take in the moment that they made this look like a spooky mansion with all of the gang in every window. This is an awesome little box set that makes it worth putting on display and showing off to people who know what’s up. The box is basically a thicker cardboard than your usual boxes like this, and the top just slides off. There’s no real lock to snap to this, its a cardboard box that’s meant to be this way for easy access.

scooby doo scooby doo

Inside you get a couple of goodies, starting with this Scooby-Doo pocket keychain from Funko. This was a cute item to get as we see Scoob looking at us with those vinyl eyes and his tongue sticking out, waiting for the next Scooby Snack to come his way.

scooby doo

Next up is the Scooby-Doo Encyclopedia. This is a fun little flip book about the same size as the Blu-ray discs that have fun facts about the show. It’s mostly fictional stuff, as you can see from the picture below of the Mystery Machine, it shows you everything inside you never knew it had. This is filled with gags, inside references, and a bunch of old-school Hanna-Barbera humor. A cute little item to have with the set.

Auto Draft Auto Draft

As for the Blu-ray itself, you’re getting all of the original episodes over four discs. Each one cleaned up and formatted for HD with improved audio and the best quality visuals you can give a 50-year-old cartoon series. And just in case you’re not in the mood to pop in a disc, they’re all available digitally with a special code to download all the episodes and watch them whenever in the same quality. The set also comes with some featurettes from previous releases like how to draw the characters, a music video, taking the Scooby-Doo challenge, and more. But there are four entirely new featurettes added which include a bio on Frank Welker, a look at the character and his evolution over the years, a look at the live stage production being made right now, and a narrative history of the cultural impact of the show.

Auto Draft

Overall, I really enjoyed adding Scooby-Doo Where Are You?: The Complete Series Limited Edition 50th Anniversary Mystery Mansion to my collection. Like a lot of you reading this, I grew up watching the show, whether it be in syndication on some random channel or part of Cartoon Network’s mainstay lineup for years, or part of Boomerang’s for years, or random clips on YouTube you show kids to get them into watching the show. It is a strange and wonderful iconic cartoon that rightfully deserves a collection like this. The only thing that would have made it better would have been a box of Scooby Snacks to go with it. I highly recommend it for everyone to watch alone, with friends, with their special someone, and with their kids. Over and over until the music from the show is burned into your memories for life.Auto Draft

What’s In The Box?!: Loot Gaming – November 2017

Tis’ the season for subscriptions boxes as possible gifts, and if you’re looking for something specifically for a gamer, Loot Gaming usually has something cool to check out. This month we got a little something different than the norm which has all sorts of cool stuff inside.

First item up is these Dungeons & Dragons playing cards. These are a 54 card deck, which is your standard playing cards of 52, as well as two Joker cards. Each one of them uses a different creature or monster as part of the artwork for the card, with every suit having their own kind of theme happening within it. This is a nice little addition to your collection of gaming collection for the nights when your crew just wants to play a little poker.

Next up is the Lords Of The Deadra book, which is basically a small addition of information from Skyrim. This is a bit bigger than a pocketbook, but the contents basically have character and world descriptions from the world that Skyrim is set in. Nothing too fancy here, it’s a nice little reference guide with illustrations that can enhance the game for players, no secret information to be shared that you don’t already know or find out quickly in the game. Just a nice reference book.

Next up we move into the game DOOM, which has a few different items in the box. The first are these shot glasses that are designed to look like shotgun shells. These things are absolutely awesome as they’re your standard shot glass size, just brought up a bit to match the look and feel of a shell. The gold around the bottom and the DOOM logo on the side make all the difference so you know when you need to pound two, you can take a double barrel in style.

Keeping with DOOM, the pin inside the game is a 50 Calibur Bullet pin. I’m not entirely sure why this pin says October 2017, probably a misprint, but it definitely matches the one for November’s package. The pin itself is of great quality enamel and feels like the real end of a bullet, just enlarged. Not sure who would exactly wear this one as a pin, but it looks great!

Probably the best item int he box was the surprise Funko Pop figure we got of the Space Marine from DOOM. I get why they added eyes to the figure as that you recognize it as a Funko item, but at the same time, a lot of the games where you see the soldier wearing the helmet, you can’t see his eyes unless you’re looking at the health meter in the game, so this was just weird. Beyond that, he looks to a tee the replica of the current marine inside the DOOM series. It was an awesome addition to find in this month’s box.

The last DOOM related item was a full poster of the current game. This one looks incredible as it shows off a classic look from DOOM married to the current art style of the game. But like all Loot Gaming boxes, the drawback to this one is the fact that it’s folded up. Still waiting for the day when they send them rolled up.

Finally, the make or break item: the t-shirt. This month we got a Diablo t-shirt, made to look like the Motörhead logo. This was an absolute treat to have as I have actually played Diablo II to the sound of “Ace Of Spades”. I was instantly in love with this shirt the minute it popped out and have been proudly wearing it when I can. This was an absolute winner!

Overall, the November Loot Gaming box was amazing! No complaints beyond the issues with the poster, everything inside appealed to me as a gamer across several titles and there really wasn’t a losing item inside the box. Well done, Loot Crate! I can’t wait to see what Decemebr has in store.

What’s In The Box?!: ThinkGeek Capsule – July 2017

ThinkGeek have done an awesome job partnering up with Geek Fuel to release thsi new line of subscription boxes called the ThinkGeek Capsule. Last month I was blown away by what was inside, and now this month we’re going to see if they can capitalize on that momentum or not with their second official box.

First, let’s start small with the Gift Card. Again this month, Think Geek threw in a free gift card worth somewhere between $5-100. Yet again, my card was only worth $5. I’m kind of curious as to whether or not there are people out there actually getting $100 on the card. There’s no real way to prove or disprove anything, so it’s just curiosity. But anyway, a nice gesture to use the site.

Next up is another exclusive Pinz pin. It looks as if they’re doing this set in waves, with four specific space-themed versions you could get. On top of that, the info int he box said that there are versions that are specifically rare, depending on the look, so a good chance to get something extra exclusive. For our box, I got the Solar System Hula Hoop Champion pin with Saturn smiling at me. I was really hopeful for the Le Voyage Dans La Lun moon, but this is still nice.

Next, we’ll look at the Bonus Gift that is included in this box. Last month it was a deck of cards, this month it’s a Funko Pop keychain. You had a chance of getting either the Fourth or Twelfth Doctor from Doctor Who, and we got Peter Capaldi. Nice chap, very intense, loved to arm-wrestle. No, wait, that was Beethoven. This is a version that’s been around for a couple years, as you can see he’s holding the Eleventh Doctor’s sonic screwdriver. This one is one of my favorite Doctors, and if I had gotten the Fourth I would have been equally happy. A lovely addition to go on my keys!

Moving on, we get an interesting addition for the artist at heart as we have a set of Marvel coloring pencils. You get one-dozen pencils, all with different colors for you to keep inside this Captain America tube. The lid on top also comes with a pencil sharpener, so you never need to look for one. I quite like this, and considering how some pencil cases can become loose over time with the lid, I enjoy that it slips on and stays tight. An awesome addition for artists and Marvel fans.

Next up is an odd addition as we get a Game Of Thrones sigil. We received the Targaryen symbol, which is nice since it comes with the three dragons and the dragons look to actually do something more than just be here for a few minutes this season. Basically, all you have here is a design on a canvas to hang on your wall. It really doesn’t do anything else and the intent is to collect all three (along with Stark and Lannister). Unless you’re a GoT fan, this is probably the weakest item in the box.

For Star Trek fans, this month’s box comes with a book. Star Trek: Vulcan. What this book contains is a fictional travel guide to Vulcan as spoken about in the Star Trek universe. You get maps, tour highlights, information about the culture and much more that will make fans drool. It is a bit weird considering they destroyed Vulcan in the new Kelvin timeline, but hey, still works with the originals. You also get four postcards to send to people as if you’re there.

The last two items in the box are probably my favorite, and they came in their own box. Specifically, a Dungeons & Dragons themed box! Look at that! The first item is a D20 patch. The D20 itself is red with black numbers, along with what appear to be battle scars all across it. The patch itself is an adhesive patch, so no need to sew it in. Just pick where you want it to go and carefully place. I know a lot of D&D fans who are also metalheads who would die in battle to have this added to their jackets.

Next, as always, the make or break item of the box: The t-shirt. Also inside the D&D box was this red “Born Lucky” shirt featuring a D20, a shield, a sword, a bow, a pencil, a potion bottle, and a wizard staff. It also has a pair of faded dragons in the background to add to the nostalgia.  This is an item I wish I had as a teenager just for the fun of it. Like, it’s hard to quantify how little D&D merch we had as players growing up and to see stuff like this both excites me and warms my heart. I love this shirt, I also wish I had it in black, but blood red is great!

Overall, the ThinkGeek Capsule for July 2017 is a success in my eyes. The card and the GoT poster weren’t all that exciting, and the pin is kind of hit-and-miss depending on if you’re a pin collector or not. But the rest of the box was amazing and it makes me excited to see what will come my way in August!

Exploring More Pixel Pals With The Joker & Harley Quinn

Last time we talked about the Pixel Pals from PDP, we got a copy of Ryu and Chun-Li from Street Fighter to review. Since then, a few things have changed. First, PDP just got a TON of new IPs to add to their collection, which they showed off at E3 this year and we’ll start seeing those come out shortly. All I can say to them so far is that they are awesome and I need them all in my house right this moment.

When I got home from E3, I had a wonderful surprise waiting for me. Two of the new Pixel Pals they just created were delivered to my door! The Joker and Harley Quinn from DC Comics. This was one of the new sets of lights I really wanted to have, along with a Batman one that was featured in the DC set they had on display. Each one stands about the same height as the previous models with the same plastic molding and carefully chosen placement of each color pixel. I love the detaul that went into Joker’s hair with two shades of green and his purple suit.

Not to be outdone, Harley Quinn’s outfit looks like a lot of time and care were put into giving her the cross-color effect of the black and red, while still adding a few squares of each color on both sides for the playing card symbols she has on both legs. Both run the same as the previous models on two AAA batteries that are easy to change out, with an on/off switch on the back. The only issue I had with them is that my Harley figure seemed to have a dimmer light than the Joker, as you can see below. And there’s no clear way to open them up and change out the bulb. It’s something I need to find out how to do because I wany my Harley to shine!

These are both great additions to the mix of Pixel Pals and I’m so happy to have them in my now growing collection. All three of what we’ll call the “Batman Set” will be available in mid-July on PDP’s website. There are a lot more of these on the way as they look to be the electronic version of Funko Pop figures, so I can’t wait to see the new designs as they start to roll out.
