Funko Supports Pride as They Announce New Pop Vinyl Figures

Funko has announced some new Pops are on the way but these ones are special. No, they are not exclusives or super limited edition but they are here for a special celebration. To help support the It Gets Better Project they have announced 3 new figures. These figures are here to help support and connect the LGBTQ+ youth around the globe through the world of collecting. Iconic characters Batman, Hello Kitty, and Spongebob will all be getting new rainbow paint jobs. It also looks like they are shown as being transparent but hard to tell with the pictures. These are great Pop figures that show the love of collecting can connect everyone.

"Black Widow" Gets Exclusive Walmart Funko Pops [Review]

The Marvel Studios Funko Pops is my favorite series that Funko has to offer. They bring the films to life in a cheap and fun way that no one else does. Black Widow is the newest film to get collectibles from the company and two of them were Walmart exclusives. There have been a lot of delays with shipping lately but these two figures have arrived on time and we are ready to dive in. Black Widow and Taskmaster both got exclusive figures and they are up in our next Funko Pop review.

First up is the leading lady, Black Widow. She is sporting a gray style outfit, one that we saw in the Black Widow trailer. The packaging is no different than the rest of the series besides the Walmart exclusives sticker on her.

The figure is a nice addition to the growing Black Widow collection. The mold is different from the rest from the hair design to the body sculpt. She is holding weapons in each hand and is posed in a nice powerful mold. Of all the figures released so far, this is one of my favorites.

Up next is, of course, the villain of the story, Taskmaster. This is the third Taskmaster figure to be released and this one seems to be based on Black Panther. I honestly love the design they gave him for his live action appearance in Black Widow. I hope we can see more Avengers poses of Taskmaster later on so he or she can have a set of their own. The packaging is the same as the rest of the series.

The figure seems to feature the same head sculpt from the others in the series. His body is posed with claws out and ready for action. The silver, orange, and blue colors still work really well with this design. Nothing is really special outside of the pose but its the pose that wins it over. We will know more about this mysterious figure once the movie finally drops.

Both of these figures are nice additions to the Black Widow Funko Pop line. You can find your own online and here. I am sure more figures from this line will come out once the movie drops and we get some spoiler Pops.

Disney "Dapper Dans" Bring Us A Little Disney Magic at Home

Disney fans: I feel you. Almost on an hourly basis, I think about the Parks. While I have never been to Disneyland, I have been to Disney World on multiple occasions, and life is basically just passing the time until I can get back again. The snacks, the rides, the magic. Yes, magic. Disney magic is real ladies and gentlemen, and I am a believer. One of the best parts of the Parks are the Dapper Dans, a barber shop quartet that entertains the masses in Magic Kingdom right on Main Street. Always a Disney favorite, they are a part of any trip and even have a set of their very own Funko POPS.

As if they knew we needed it, the Dapper Dans have come together to perform on the Disney Parks YouTube channel, singing us "When You Wish Upon a Star":

"Scrubs": JD Inspiration Handling LA Hospital's COVID-19 Response

From Bill Lawrence, the creator of Scrubs, we learned what the inspiration for Dr. "JD" John Dorian (Zach Braff) is up to. Time to update your headcanon, so turn on some early 2000's college rock and prepare to be excited and inspired by what our real-life "JD" has been up to:

You read that right:

You may recognize Dr. Jon Doris from his tiny cameo in the season 8 episode "My Finale" or from his name in the credits of Scrubs where he and his wife Dolly Klock served as medical advisers for the show. Doris and Lawrence were best friends at the College of William and Mary, then Lawrence ended up in Hollywood making shows and Doris doing his medical residency. Hence, the creation of Scrubs.

It's really inspiring to know these real life heroes are out there doing this work. So many of these folks are literally putting their lives on the line, going in to treat patients without adequate masks and protection. At least two nurses have already died, and even though dumb politicians turn health care professionals into their coronavirus punching bags, it's good to remember the real people behind all of this.

Real people like Doris, who change their clothes in their garage to make sure they don't infect their family.

And thinking back to Scrubs, it's remembering all of the essential support staff who make things run. Nurses like Carla actually do most of the direct care of patients, especially if you're someone dealing with a disease like coronavirus. And it's the janitors of the world who keep things clean– as a clip from the episode "My Cabbage" recently went viral as it helps demonstrate the importance of social distancing, washing your hands, not touching your face, etc:

It's also nice to see the real JD working for a Kaiser Permanente hospital. As one of the largest not-for-profit medical groups, Kaiser literally is putting patients over profit (because they don't make any).

I'm glad it's the "Real JD" running this, because you know who has two thumbs and I don't want running COVID-19 response at a for-profit hospital? Bob Kelso.

Let's all take a moment and thank those real life heroes working to treat people, and for whom our social distancing is vitally important so we don't get sick and flood their hospitals. Thanks, Real JD, and every other doctor, nurse, janitor, or support staff helping sick people.

You can stream all nine seasons of Scrubs on Hulu. I highly recommend at least the first three. And if you want to take your obsession to the next level, you can order some Scrubs Funko Pops and have your own quarantine with JD, Turk, and Elliot.

Funko Announces "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" Pops

Funko has announced that the classic high school comedy Fast Times at Ridgemont High will get their own collectibles. This is one of those rare opportunities that Funko really reaches out into the classics. Fans of this movie have 5 Pops to look forward too. First up is the stoner Jeff Spicolli who is getting not one but two Pops. One from his Fast Times at Ridgemont High classroom pizza scene and another from the beach. Linda Barrett is getting her Pop too. Brad Hamilton and his pirate costume will also be released in this wave too. Last but not least, Mr. Hand is getting is own Funko Pop as well. I doubt this will the last Fast Times at Ridgemont High Pops we will see as we still have not yet to see the other main character Stacy Hamilton. We could see her get a convention exclusive release later on this year but only time will tell.

Once & Future and Spawn Top Diamond Gem Award 2019 Winners

Courtesy of Diamond Comic Distributors, here are the winners of the Diamond Gem Awards of 2019, voted on by comic book retailers in the direct market. Diamond says that "nominees were chosen by a panel of Diamond product specialists based on their overall impact on the industry, while comics and related merchandise were chosen on the merits of their sales performance and quality from the past year."

DC Entertainment received four Gem Awards, with Teen Titans Raven, Dark Nights Metal and DC Collectibles for DC Prime Batman AF and Batman Black and White Batgirl Bruce Timm statue.  Marvel Comics also took four, including for Comic Book Publisher Of The Year Over 3%, Marvel Comics #1000, Silver Surfer Black Treasury Edition and Miles Morales GN Spider-Man.  Boom Studios also received four Gem Awards, two for Once & Future, one for Buffy the Vampire Slayer #1 and for Comic Book Publisher Of The Year Under 3%.
