Is The World Ready For Empire’s New Wonder Woman Cover?

Is The World Ready For Empire’s New Wonder Woman Cover?

With her first ever solo feature film just a few months away, “Empire” magazine has given their subscribers a whole new look at Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman. The magazine’s latest subscribers-only cover gets up close and personal with Gadot’s Amazon warrior, depicting an over the shoulder shot of the iconic DC superhero.

The shot comes via the Superhero Hype forums, and the cover itself includes the tagline “Now the world is ready for you.”

The cover text could be read in two different ways. On one hand, the tagline could reference the fact that Wonder Woman as a character comes from the lost land of Themyscira and enters man’s world due to the events of World War I. On the other hand, it could be viewed as a reference to the fact that there are still so few female-led superhero movies in the sprawling genre. “Wonder Woman” will be the first female-led superhero film since “Catwoman” in 2004.

Wonder Woman’s solo film follows her big screen debut in last year’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.” 2017 will be a big year for Diana, with her solo “Wonder Woman” film hitting in June and “Justice League” arriving in November. Wonder Woman will, of course, play a large role in DC’s first major team-up movie featuring all of their major movie heroes.

Recent weeks have seen a lot of new “Wonder Woman” news in addition to this new portrait of Diana. We’ve gotten our first look at the film’s toy lines, which include figures from both Mattel and Funko. Those toy lines even confirmed that the film’s villain will be Ares, a fact that has not yet been revealed in any of “Wonder Woman’s” trailers. Photos taken at this past weekend’s Toy Fair in New York City confirmed that Ares is getting a big figure in the movie’s toy line.

Based on a screenplay by Allan Heinberg and Geoff Johns from a story by Heinberg and Zack Snyder, “Wonder Woman” follows the Amazon princess who, after discovering the body of American fighter pilot Steve Trevor washed ashore washed ashore on Themyscira, sets out to bring an early end to World War I.

Opening June 2, “Wonder Woman” stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, Lucy Davis, Danny Huston, Elena Anaya, Saïd Taghmaoui, Ewen Bremner, Lisa Loven Kongsli and David Thewlis.
