GameStop Getting Exclusive Star Wars: The Black Series Figures

GameStop has become somewhat more than just a video game store. They have opened their doors to more than just games but toys and collectibles. I’ve been to GameStop more times than I can count just looking for a Funko Pop or an action figure. This time looks like GameStop will be getting it’s very own exclusive line of Star Wars: The Black Series figure line. Coming out of this is the GameStop line for what they are calling Gaming Greats. Coming out first is from Star Wars Battlefront II with the Heavy Battle Droid. This brown and black colored battle droid comes with his heavy machine gun and ready to take on the Republic. It’s interesting to see this character become a figure and it should please Star Wars Battlefront II fans. Lastly, we will be getting one I’m sure won’t be on shelves for more than a day. Coming out of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic we are getting Jedi Knight Revan! This previous Sith Lord turned Jedi and changed the balance of the force. This GameStop Exclusive Gaming Great features a cloth styled skirt with a plastic upper body and hood pieces. He does come with his iconic purple lightsaber and obviously his iconic armor and helmet. I’m quite interested to see how articulate this figure is, and I guess we’ll have to see when it comes to stores. I know there’s a massive fan base for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic so this figure won’t be on shelves for too long.

The Star Wars: The Black Series Gaming Greats Figures from Hasbro Exclusive to GameStop will be priced at $24.99 each. They are set to hit stores Spring of 2020, you should be able to pre-order them in-store at your local GameStop or wait till Spring and you could find Revan here and the Heavy Droid here. Don’t forget to check out some other GameStop exclusives like the Purge Stormtrooper from Star Wars – Jedi: Fallen Order and his Funko Pop counterpart.

May the Force be with you.

POP ROC Comic Shop – A Storm in a Cereal Bowl?

18 months ago, Bleeding Cool profiled a then-just-opening comic book store in New York, POP ROC Cereal Bar & Comic Shop, owned by WWE wrestler Colin Delaney, alongside Jason Hilton, Nick Andolina, and Liz Andolina. It was also a coffee shop. And a cereal bar. And a comics lending library.

The store still seems to thriving, according to social media posts. But it appears there has been some… disquiet. To put it mildly. Lots of allegations are being thrown around, what runs below is what various involved parties have made public, and each disputes the other’s version of events. You’ll have to come to your own conclusion.

Owner Jason Hilton posted on the store’s Facebook page,

This is Jason the owner and founder here. I’m a little emotional and tired from working 14 straight hours but, I just want to say that we are so thankful to the community, media, friends, family, business leaders, artists and everyday people who support us. The many, many, more who stand with us and are for us. I’m super thankful to our employees who have been with us through all the transitions. Believing in and standing by us. So many of you lead with love and support. You build us up. We love you and love serving you. There’s a lot more coming too.. Thank you!! #poprocisfinallyfree #success ifheisforuswhocanbeagainstus #romans831 #protectthishouse #poproc @ POP ROC Cereal Bar & Comic Shop

Pop Roc is finally free? From what? One back and forth response reads

So what’s going on? In mid-September, the store closed and gave this reason.

We’re sorry for any inconvenience but we will be closed this weekend for some “house cleaning”. We’ll keep you updated on our progress and look forward to serving you soon. Enjoy your last weekend before fall.

And some time after that weekend,

We’ll be closed for a little longer friends. But we promise to fill you in real soon. There’s lots of great stuff happening and we can’t wait to share it.

With one response reading;

Danielle Degaugh *sneezes* sorry I’m allergic to bullshit

Posts at the end of September for an event at the store saw people question if the store had reopened, and responses to those posts have been deleted. But then the store had a series of Hallowe’en related event posts with shots from the store. So it was definitely open. So what went down?

Fellow owner WWE Wrestler Colin Delaney’s Facebook page tells a different story. At the end of September, he posted;

Since a lot of people have been asking, I wanted to hop on here and address something very important.
Last Friday, Pop Roc locked its doors and has now been closed for a full week giving reasons like “cleaning” or “renovations” but the truth is that at 5pm last Friday, Jason Hilton texted myself, Nick, and Liz Andolina and informed us that Pop Roc LLC would no longer be allowed to operate out of 337 East Ave and that he was changing the locks and police would be called if we attempted to enter. His name is the one on the lease, so he is using that to attempt to take Pop Roc from us. He’s trying to take a business away that we all started together, a business that we’ve pumped our hearts and souls into for the last year and a half. A business that I’ve spent 14 hour days at, 60+ hour weeks at, all because I love it and believe in it and want to provide the best possible experience for our customers. I just wanted to let everyone know that I’m gonna keep fighting. Pop Roc isn’t one person. Hell, it’s not even just the 4 people who started it. It’s all of us. And I love you all. ❤️❤️❤️ #PopRocForever

In mid-October, he updated, saying,

Hey guys, as a lot of you already know, Pop Roc has been highjacked from Nick, Liz, and I. So while we fight legally to get it back, we are out of the shop, unable to make money there, as well as racking up legal bills every day. Our friends at OuterHeaven have been cool enough to double their Halloween party/Open House as a bit of a fundraiser for the heart and soul of Pop Roc. Friday October 25th, 936 Exchange st. It’s free to swing by, donations are welcome. There will be Pop Roc signature Mocktails and cereal on hand, in addition to a special Pop Roc colab shirt from OuterHeaven. Mostly, I miss all of your faces, so swing by and talk comics/pop culture and have some Halloween fun!

With this most recent post a week ago.

Hey all, I’ve been on the road traveling all day so I haven’t had a chance to respond to all the messages and all the Facebook love but I wanted to say from the bottom of my heart THANK YOU! You have no idea how many times recently I’ve felt hopeless and feel like totally breaking down from everything happening with Pop Roc. Everybody’s support means the world to me. I’m not going to stop fighting and none of you should either. Jason Hilton deletes all the comments that call him out for wrong doing? Who cares. He needs to know how we feel. How all of us feel. He didn’t take this place away from just Nick, Liz, and I, he took this place away from so many more people who considered this their place. A safe place that no longer exists for so many. I can’t even tell you the amount of messages I’ve gotten since all of this went down from people who felt personally scammed and wronged by Jason. All of your voices should be heard too. He can go out and call other people “childish” and say everyone else is trying to “ruin the business” but YOU ruined the business when you locked your business partners out and started selling assets of a business that wasn’t and still isn’t solely yours. So yes, I’m going to keep fighting and I want all of you to as well. Don’t support one mans theft and greed. Supporting Pop Roc at 337 East Ave right now is telling one person that their morally bankrupt behavior is acceptable when it’s not. I will fight this til I’m dead and in the ground. #FreePopRoc#PopRocForALL

With plenty of supporting comments from his fans. Though Jason has his own, of course, from that most recent of posts up top… but it also seems that dozens have been deleted, including one from John Cimino that Jason replied to directly, saying.

While I believe whole heartedly the nature of your inquiry is to side with Colin & Nick and anything I say will have little effect on your personal opinion, I hope this helps others. I will also be posting an official response to our page shortly. It has been going through rigorous legal review to maintain verifiable and irrefutable truths. Hence the time it’s taken to respond.

The nature of a partnership in theory and in legal form are two different things. When this article was written there was no formal partnership agreement in place and there still isn’t. When you form a corporation there are certain rules and regulations that must be met to maintain a “partnership”. There is also a fiduciary responsibility to all parties that must be upheld. One of these is called “capital contributions”. There’s also what’s called “acting in bad faith”. And lastly there needs to be a signed operating agreement to finalize any partnership.

Colin & Nick both made decisions without consulting me about how POP ROC was supposed to be ran in an effort to further there own needs and not the best interest of the company. They lied about legal representation they claimed as personal lawyers when the lawyer was hired, unlawfully as the proposed company lawyer. They worked against me when I asked for a fair dismissal and proper capital contributions be made. They refused to ever put in even a nickel to the business. While I personally invested over $50,000 dollars (with receipts and records to prove it). Then they tried to push me out of the business that is in my name and I, and only I, have invested in. That’s the “acting in bad faith” part. Colin was caught on camera stealing money during a transaction where he sold a Chuck Norris funko pop to a mutual friend of ours who verified the transaction. You know him well. Ask him. My personal property became missing and they ignored my inquiries. Their actions also left us without being able to pay state mandatory taxes and vendors. Colin has taken money month after month, week after week, without regard to the fiscal responsibility of the company. Nick cashed out. Remember, they got paid to be here. They didn’t have anything stolen from them. They used my money to pay themselves. While I spent 3 months without taking a penny. To the extent that I was forced to go to food banks to feed my family. They claim they worked in the business and that should require they get paid and then claimed I didn’t. All this has been shown to be a lie, while neighbors, employees and guests see me there as much if not more than anyone else. All the vendor accounts are in my personal name, all the loans and rentals agreements are in my personal name. All the risk and responsibilities in my name. All because the “partnership” you are referring to, never existed. So to protect the company and my personal assets, as clearly stated, they were removed. We shut the doors for many days while addressing multiple code violations that had been left unchecked by all.

Lastly, there has never been a signed operating agreement.

So, let’s review.
No verified capital contributions.
Acts of bad faith.
Stealing.
Lies.
Misuse of funds.
Trying to screw their “friend” out of his investment.
Multiple code violations and bad practices.
Not signed agreements.
No partnership.

What I find amazing too, just to throw it in here, is how much they can go around posting to social media how much they loved the business and asking people to share the negativity but almost never did the same to push the positivity of the business when they were here.

Also look at the many people who have gone out of their way to trash the business who have never actually been in here as a result of the character of the people who claim to love it.

Look as they stand by and watch people attack the business and their “friend”.

No doubt all parties will have plenty more to say… anyone for fruit loops?

The next one is a Funko HQ Hollywood, which is set to open to the public on Monday, November 18, 2019. However on November 7 for bunco hosted our VIP Preview night celebrating the grand opening of Funko HQ Hollywood. Funko Hollywood isn’t your typical brick-and-mortar retail location, but rather an immersive experience featuring life-size Funko statues and immersive “sets” inspired by some of the biggest pop culture fandoms including Guardians of the Galaxy, DC Comics, Disney, Black Panther, and more. Funko HQ Hollywood is a more extensive Hollywood in-store experience. Pictures released from the vent showcase amazingly crafted areas based off of popular Funko lines such as Funko Pops and Rock Candies. Some of the displays would be amazing to see in person like the Hall of Justice, Black Panther set or the Stranger Things area. On top of that, it looks like there will be some exclusive at Funko‘s only available at Funko Hollywood. Showcase below it looks like we will be getting Marilyn Monroe, Freddy Funko with a star, Big Boy with sunglasses and then Huckleberry Hound and Wonder Woman with Funko HQ Hollywood bags. This is one-stop Funko fans should attempt to go to at least once. The public opening for the Funko HQ Hollywood store is November 18, 2019, so be prepared because it will be a madhouse.

Frank Quitely Designs Fill New Forbidden Planet Comics Store, Opening in Glasgow Tomorrow

We have a little look at the new Forbidden Planet comic book store opening in Glasgow ahead of its official launch tomorrow. The store has moved not too far from its current position at 168 Buchannan St to its new digs at 122-126 Sauchiehall Street.

Frank Quitely Designs Fill New Forbidden Planet Comics Store, Opening in Glasgow Tomorrow

It opens at 9 am tomorrow and will be having a load of early customer free goodie bags, and various competitions throughout the day.  The grand prize is an expenses-paid trip to the opening of the giant (40,000 sq ft)  flagship Funko store in LA courtesy of Funko Europe.

The previous store had only 1000 sq ft of store, the new one runs over 9500 sq ft over 4 floors. It allows Forbidden Planet Glashow to have much deeper stocks on almost all lines. The comics and manga sections alone are more than three times the size of the old shop.

It’s also allowed them to reintroduce a back issue section – they haven’t had one for over ten years – and add sections for Sci-Fi and Fantasy, tabletop and strategy games and a much larger breadth to the items they carry for everything from Disney to Fortnite.

The store is situated about 30 metres from the largest Waterstones in Scotland, and on the same 400 metre stretch as stores like M&S and Argos – right in the heart of Glasgow prime retail. They are very hopeful that by taking such a prominent position they will truly bring the general Glasgow public who have been turned on to comics and Sci-Fi by the massive success of things like the Marvel movies, Stranger Things and the general growth of fantasy-based entertainment, through their doors, as an opportunity to spread the word on just how amazing and life-changing the creations we love can be.

The shop has worked with legendary comics creator Frank Quitely on a good bit of internal decoration including a huge flying Superman which greets everyone who walks through the doors as he flies across the wall of the shop’s floor to ceiling atrium space – with his work blown to spectacular sizes. It’s hard to imagine a more iconic image than the Superman on entry. With Insta opportunities for the 8ft tall Chewbacca model, Funko box props and the like.

The store will currently trade on 2 floors but the 3rd is prepped ready to be completed when a couple of building warrants come through, around January, and then will expand to 3 floors with the current back issue section – which runs to around 3500 comics growing to a whopping 20,000 +.

That floor will also be installing the first Funko Pop ‘exchange’  where you can come by and see retired and valuable pops, or trade some of your current ones in against others. You’ll also be able to check out current valuations and take part in special events there from time to time. Amongst the large open spaces of the first 2 floors, they hope this 3rd floor where people who suffer from the hard-core collector’s addiction can feel at home amongst the like-minded and truly indulge their hobby.

Their intention is for the store to become more than just a large pop Culture Entertainment retailer and become a part of the culture of Glasgow. With many suppliers already contacting them about launches for comics, books, games and associated merchandise, they intend to make the store where something is always happening. From 1000 sq ft to nearly 10 times that, feels like just the sort of platform they need to inspire people to look up at the stars not down at their feet…

Oh and look they have an exclusive Funko POP of Elvira as well…

Marvel Maintains Marketshare, as DC Comics Claws a Little Back – October 2019

Last month, Marvel were down on their their close-to-50% share of August, but with September they still had an impressive 38.81% of dollars bought and 45.51% of units shipped marketshare. In second place was DC, rising with a market share of 27.80% and 29.15%, respectively. Image Comics ranked third, breaking over ten-percent market share thanks to Spawn #300 and other creator owner projects with a 11.01% dollar share and a 8.32% unit share. The top three were followed by Dark Horse Comics, IDW Publishing, Dynamite Entertainment, and Boom Studios, respectively.

In October, it was pretty much level pegging for September when it comes to Marvel marketshare, with Marvel on 39.51% dollar share and 45.20% unit share, though DC upped their numbers with a 31.67% dollar share and a 32.02% unit share, gaining from  Image Comics which dropped to a 7.59% dollar share and a 7.18% unit share, followed by IDW Publishing, Dark Horse Comics, Boom Studios, and Dynamite Entertainment.

The Marvel X-Books dominated the chart as Marvel had eight comics in October’s top ten, including X-Men #1 at the top, beating Image’s Spawn #301 at number two – which was still a damn fine acheivement, followed by Powers of X #6 at #3, House of X #6 at #4, The Amazing Mary Jane #1 at #6, Absolute Carnage #4 at #7, Ghost Rider #1 at #8, The Immortal Hulk #25 at #9, and Marauders #1 at #10. DC’s The Joker: Year of the Villain #1 was their only top ten entry at #5, though we may see more when the split cardstock covers are combined in Monday’s Bleeding Cool chart. The dollar top ten also saw Joker/Harley and Harleen make it on on the back of a higher cover price.

Among the premier publishers, Dynamite Entertainment’s top book Vengeance of Vampirella #1 ranked #50, Boom Studios’ Something Is Killing the Children #2 ranked #96, IDW Publishing’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #99 ranked #101, and Dark Horse Comics’ Black Hammer/Justice League #4 ranked #151.

October was a five-week month, but it did over a fifth more business than that year’s five-week October. In one month this has turned round sluggish sales for 2019, and means that for the year so far, for comics and graphic novels, 2019 is doing 1.81% better in terms of dollars raised though at a drop of 2.4% units sold. We’re selling fewer comics for more money, but making more money as a result. Comic book folk are still an inelastic lot. And it is the comics that are booming more than graphic novels too. Comic stores are also selling a lot more toys as well, 21.81% more in terms of money, 22.21% in numbers sold. A fifth more toys sold in 2019, so far, than in 2018.

DC’s Doomsday Clock Part 1, collecting the first half of Geoff Johns and Gary Frank’s sequel to Watchmen, was October’s best-selling graphic novel and one of the two DC titles in the top ten. Image Comics had three titles in the top ten, with Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie’s The Wicked + The Divine Volume 9 as their top book at #2. Marvel Comics had two titles in the top ten, led by Chip Zdarsky and Mark Bagley’s Spider-Man: Life Story at #3. Also in the top ten, Dark Horse Comics’ Critical Role Volume 1: Vox Machina Origins ranked #8.

UDON Entertainment’s Shigenori Soejima & P-Studio Art Unit Art Works, an art book featuring work from the artists behind Persona 5, was October’s best-selling book.

Funko’s POP! Marvel: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse: Casual Miles Morales Vinyl Figure, a PREVIEWS Exclusive figure based on the award-winning animated film, was October’s best-selling toy product. Also in the top ten from Funko was the PREVIEWS Exclusive POP! DC Heroes: The Red Death Vinyl Figure at #2. Diamond Select Toys had three products in the top ten: the Marvel Select: Unleashed Hulk Action Figure at #6, the Marvel Milestones: Thor Ragnarök: Gladiator Hulk Statue at #8, and the Marvel Select: Carnage Action Figure at #10.

Paizo Publishing’s Pathfinder: Lost Dimensions Character Guide, a source book for Pathfinder Second Edtion, was the best-selling game product of October and one of the five Paizo products among the top ten.
