The Top 5 Spider-Man 2099 Collectibles You Should Own

Spider-Man 2099 is making headlines yet again. This is one of my all-time favorite Marvel comics superheroes as I fell in love with the 2099 comic series of back in the 90s. I want to take the time in a step back from the world of comics and look at the other modes of collectibles this character offers. This will be the first of many posts coming where I’ll list the top five collectibles for a wide variety of characters. This time we are in a dive into the world of 2009 and look at The best five Spider-Man 2099 collectibles.

Starting off the top collectibles for Spider-Man 2099 is the old 90s toy that is a Spider-Man 2099 action figure and comic book bundled set. This action figure set came with a very special white cover second printing variant of Spider-Man 2099 #1 (1992). This figure was sold by 20 beers it is quite hot on the market whether it’s toy collectors or comic collectors this 2099 collectible pack is worth adding to your collection.

You can’t have a top collectibles article that doesn’t mention Funko. Funko has released so many collectibles that are almost very hard to find something that they didn’t make. One of my personal favorite Funko Pops in my collection is the Walgreens exclusive Spider-Man 2099 Pop. This Pop is very simplistic the basic design but the red and blue colors really “pop” here. I am surprised we didn’t get to see another version of this come out with the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse line with him at the end credits. Unsure if these can still be found in stores but this is one Funko vinyl that if you have a Spider-Man collection it should be added to their web.

Marvel Legends has its fandom and is just as big as Funko so it’s no surprise that the Marvel Legends series is on here. With the recent Spider-Man 2099 comic, the Marvel Legends figure is a must have on for our Spider-Man 2099 collectibles list. He has great detail it is fully articulated so if you’re an out-of-the-box collector you can post them however you want.

The Top 5 Spider-Man 2099 Collectibles Y The Top 5 Spider-Man 2099 Collectibles Y

Staying in the world of Marvel Legends I have to throw in the second version of his costume that was recently added to the Marvel comics world. When Miguel O’Hara came back to the past Peter Parker helped him make a new suit and Marvel Legends solidified that suit from the recent run of Spider-Man 2099 with this figure. This light blue and red suit shows some elements of some futuristic tech and is a must-have to display next to the previous Marvel Legends Spider-Man 2099 figure. I would suggest either Marvel Legends figure for any Spider-Man fan or a fan of the 2099 series.

Finally, I have to throw out the big bad Sideshow Collectibles statue. This is a little pricier on the collectibles scale but for the amount of detail in the statue its worth every penny. This actual statue features Miguel O’Hara a.k.a. Spider-Man 2099 with a futuristic displayed. He stands on some sort of futuristic orb and the orb lights up. This massive statue would bring all eyes to it into any collectibles room. While the statue is currently sold out on Sideshow Collectibles you can’t find it throughout other avenues. I wish I bought one when I could have until the end of the collectibles hunt will continue until I own one or my collection.

These are the top five Spider-Man 2099 collectibles out on the market. This Spider-Man character is not popular by a lot but for the fans that are it is nice to know that we do you have something to collect besides comic books. I hope in the future we can start seeing more Spider-Man 2099 collectibles whether it’s new versions of Marvel Legends figures, Funko Pops or even some new statues. Stay tuned here at Bleeding Cool for more top five collectibles countdown featuring some of your favorite characters!

Star Wars Funko Pops Embrace the Dark Side in Newest Wave

It’s time to say goodbye to the Jedi and embrace the dark side and join in the Sith. With Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker little over a month away the hype is getting real. This is a movie I am excited and honestly can’t wait to see you. Funko isn’t helping the high as they have released a new wave of upcoming a Star Wars Funko pops. This one seemingly in braces at the dark side completely. Starting off The newest wave is three sets of upcoming Star Wars Mystery Minis. There will be three retailers getting exclusive versions of these mystery minis. Walmart, GameStop, and Target will all have their exclusive characters each for you to collect. I do believe the ratio is 1/12 so it won’t be too hard to find the ones you want. The ones I would love to get would be the mysterious and Knights of Ren these little mysterious nights will help my complete transition to the dark side. Coming out of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is Supreme Leader Kylo Ren who is making his rounds in this wave. First up it looks like we will be getting lights and sound electronic Funko Pop of Kylo Ren. This would go great with the upcoming Darth Vader electronic Pop that has already been revealed from Funko. We will then be seeing Supreme Leader Kylo Ren with his very own at 10 inch Funko Pop that will be glow in the dark. Next, Kylo Ren will be joining Rey in an exclusive at Barnes and Noble two-pack. Staying in the trend of two-packs we will be getting the lovable droids a BB-8 and D-O in a pack that will be exclusive to Books-a-Million. Now moving back onto the dark side will be getting up for retailer exclusive Knights of Ren Funko Pops! Each one is designed after the retrospective Knight of Ren for the upcoming fil and would be perfect to display with Kylo Ren. There was a 5th Knight that has it been read least in the past Smugglers Bounty Funko subscription box from Amazon so be on the lookout for him to finish the set. But if you don’t want to complete all six of the Knights of Ren through retailer exclusives there will be a set of six silver chrome varaints. They look immortalized in the chrome versions almost as if they are statues and would still be badass for any Sith’s collection. Last but not least are my two favorite reveals in this wave. First, up will be getting the red eyes C-3PO Funko Pop that we have seen in the Star Wars convention and trailer. We will also be getting dark side Rey from that trailer as well. Whether these are teasers or maybe potential spoilers I can’t wait to see what happens. Out of this wave, I will be purchasing the Sith Rey and I hope we can see more companies give us this fallen Jedi Rey.

These dark side Funko Pops do not have a release date just yet they could be releasing it before the film or after the film. Excluding the retailer exclusive variants, the rest will be commons are already up and available for pre-orders and you can find them here. As for prices the commons and exclusives will vary between the $8.99 and $12.50. The 10-inch supreme leader Kylo Ren will be roughly $30 and the electronic one should be around $15-18 that is going off of the Iron Man Avengers light up to and adding a little extra for sound.

Join the dark side. We have cookies.

Opinion: Why We Should Support “Magic: The Gathering”

Yesterday, an article was posted on Bleeding Cool‘s “Comics” hub about how Magic: The Gathering is becoming an institution that isn’t supporting its player base. In this article, I intend to rebuke this as well as I can, because I feel strongly that Wizards of the Coast is doing their sincere best in accommodating their players.

"Sorin, Lord of Innistrad" Deck Tech - "Magic: The Gathering"
Source: Wizards of the Coast

On Magic‘s R&D

So, the first thing that Ken Stewart, who is affiliated with Rodman’s Comics through Gamers’ Palace Comics and Games, notes is that Wizards of the Coast’s Magic R&D team has been deliberately pushing certain cards of a higher rarity in order to sell cards. My first response is that Wizards of the Coast is a subsidiary of Hasbro, which is a big-name toy and game company, if not the biggest name today; of course they’re going to want to sell their products! So Oko, Thief of Crowns is pushed to mass-usage in major tournament scenes and is a $50+ card in financial terms. That’s not going to remain a problem when they ban it in the formats where it proves a problem. Look at Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis, and its impact on Modern. It had an impact and now it’s banned. Wrenn and Six isn’t banned yet because it’s easy enough to kill it with an early-game burn spell in Legacy and Modern. Oko is a likely candidate for a Standard ban given some more time to prove how ridiculous the card is.

Oko, a new Magic: the Gathering Planeswalker
Source: Wizards.com

Of these examples that you originally gave, Hogaak has been dealt with, W6 doesn’t necessarily need to be dealt with, and Oko is probably on its way out come November 18th. The counterbalance to poor quality of cards is a healthy ban list. This game has seen instances where cards needed to be banned often and en masse in the past. Look at Mirrodin Standard season. Artifact lands, Disciple of the Vault, and Skullclamp were all banned from Standard. That is seven cards banned in not even just a single Standard season, but in a single block of sets! Comparatively, the current Standard season is child’s play. Modern is clearly also being slowly phased out in favor of Pioneer (despite what Wizards is saying), but that’s meant to breathe life into the game, and it looks like it’s working.

On Ken’s WPN Status

On to the next complaint: Ken Stewart losing his status as a Wizards Play Network affiliate. On the surface (as I can’t speak as a store owner so can’t go further down), this feels like a gripe that is his own problem. He claims that while the WPN status is linked to stores with an emphasis on tabletop gaming, Wizards of the Coast, with its “[PC] games, books, [licensed] intellectual property for tv shows, toy lines, and movies and many other random things”, tabletop gaming is not 75% of its priority.

I’m sorry,  what?

Firstly, elaborate on those “many other random things”. How many of those things are completely unrelated to Magic: The Gathering or Dungeons & Dragons? Remember Dungeons & Dragons? I certainly do. It’s Wizards of the Coast’s other big seller and, more relevantly, is a tabletop game that is still very much supported by the company.

Anyway, your main concern was with Magic, and still, you’re in the wrong because without the cards printed for tabletop, we wouldn’t have the Magic: The Gathering: Arena game, the books associated with the storyline of the game, any of the toys by Funko or thereabouts (including Arena of the Planeswalkers, a tabletop boardgame spin-off), the movie (which is still in development hell), or the Netflix show. And if you think for a moment that Wizards of the Coast won’t be pressured by Hasbro to provide tabletop card game material as tie-ins for the Netflix series, you’d be sorely mistaken.

Anyway, back to your lost WPN status. You are sore about this because they rejected your reapplication on the grounds that your bathroom “shows signs of rust”, and you defend this by saying the building is over a century old. I’m no expert on infrastructure, but so was my childhood home. I lived in Rockaway Park, in New York, which is a suburban part of the state close to the water and was devastated by Hurricane Sandy back in 2012. And you know what my family did when the basement showed signs of rusting and mold? We fixed it. It took a fair amount of contracting, but we took the initiative to fix that basement. And we didn’t even have a huge influx of people visiting it every day, so there wasn’t a huge incentive to do so. But please, do gripe about how you want to keep your bathroom rusty. I’m sure your players enjoy using it.

On a similar note, I’ll tell you about a store that I saw lose its WPN status. Perhaps you have heard of it; it was called A Store Of Fire And Dice, and its WPN status was revoked for reasons of a highly-controversial nature. ASOFAD lost its status because they had defaced the poster that was given to them by WPN about store etiquette, and also flew the flag of “Kekistan”, an alt-right troll-created fake country, in open sight.

Opinion: Why We Should Support "Magic: The Gathering"
This isn’t okay. At all. Source: Reddit

This store is still functioning and is based in Long Island, New York. Before I moved upstate, I frequented the store. It was only once I moved that I learned about the revoked status. The owner, Jesse DeMarco, is still spouting alt-right philosophies and throwing shade towards Wizards of the Coast on his Twitter and Facebook pages. A lot of people across the Magic community see the place as a blemish and him as a madman. As someone who identifies as agender and is therefore in a demographic that is marginalized by the alt-right (among many others), I don’t believe they’re wrong. Wizards of the Coast cares about the players in all demographics. Have you noticed the initiatives they’ve taken to support marginalized groups? They’re definitely there.

I also know of a few really good WPN-affiliated stores, such as Alterniverse in Hyde Park, New York, which despite downsizing to a major degree and moving to a more rural area than previous locations, is still being supported by the Wizards Play Network. I don’t know about rural stores being the problem. Anthony Just, the owner, even happens to sell comics as a primary focus, so I don’t know about the comic focus being the problem either.

Opinion: Why We Should Support "Magic: The Gathering"
A comic book signing at Alterniverse. Source: Facebook

So yeah, if there’s one thing I can agree with Ken on it’s that we should voice our opinions to the Wizards Play Network, however we see fit. But honestly, they close places for good reasons. If he wants to complain about Magic when it’s specifically the WPN that’s letting him down, he has every right to do so, but in doing so he’s wrong to misguide his frustrations.

Ken: Do you really want to be another Jesse DeMarco just because your bathroom isn’t up to snuff? Or would you rather be an Anthony Just, and make it despite the odds? Maybe your piece is enough to let Wizards see that you’re trying. But really, you should do more than complain, because actions speak far louder than words.
