Funko Round-Up: Mickey Mouse Turns 90, and Pez Galore!

Funko announces tons of new products and licenses every day, let alone every week. It can be a lot to keep up with. So we are here to help. Welcome to the Funko Round-Up! In this edition: Mickey Mouse is celebrating 90 years and Funko is helping, and they dive into the deep end with Pop Pez. Let’s take a look!

Starting with Mickey Mouse, all sorts of products will be in stores. Pop Keychains, Pop Pens, and a Mickey wave of Vinyl Figures celebrating his entire history will be available. Those vinyl figures are awesome — so many classic versions that it is really hard to choose a favorite.

Also Pops will be available, with Steamboat Willie, Firefighter Mickey, and three Pops based on Fantasia. Best part: these are not exclusive to anywhere! No chases! Way to go, Funko. The only exclusive is the super-sized 10-inch black-and-white Mickey Mouse, which can only be found at Target. Some of these have already started to show up in stores, and everything will be out this fall.

Jumping now to Pez, a ton of these are coming. Starting with Star Wars, two bounty hunters. Greedo and Bossk are the first of what will probably be a lot of Star Wars Pez.

Sonic, Crash Bandicoot, and three different versions of Mega Man will be available. The green Gyro Attack glow in the dark dispenser is exclusive to GameStop.

Nightmare Before Christmas is celebrating 25 years this year, and will also see Pez released. Jack, the Pumpkin King, Sally, Vampire Teddy, and a glow in the dark Oogie Boogie will be in stores.

Four Batman ’66 dispensers will be available, with Batman (including a pink chase version, Robin, and the Joker available.

Cereal ad icons are of course going to be in this line, and we start with Cap N Crunch (with black and white chase), Crunchberry Beast, and Jean LaFoote. Quake and Quisp will be a Funko Shop exclusive set.

Finally, the coolest of the bunch is a Pez dispenser of Bob Ross.

All of the Pop Pez will be available in September and October.

The 1928 animated short film Brave Little Tailor sees Mickey Mouse embarking on a quest to slay a giant and win the hand of a fair maiden (Minnie Mouse, of course.)

Unboxing the Funko Smuggler’s Bounty Revenge of the Sith Star Wars Box

Star Wars fans, we had a good run with these Smuggler’s Bounty boxes. The bi-monthy subscription boxes were a treat to get in the mail. Some were better than others, but they always put a smile on my face every time I opened one. With the Funko subscription boxes coming to an end and transitioning into retailer exclusives, it was a sad time opening this last one. We do not know yet where we will be able to find boxes going forward, but hopefully it is a retailer who actually gets things out and prominently displayed (please for the love of the Emperor not Walmart). With that being said, let’s look at the last subscription box.

This boxes theme was Revenge of the Sith, and I could not be more excited. Criminally underrated, it is the best of the prequels and I could not wait to see what they came up with for this last box. The cold eyes of Anakin Skywalker greet you when you pick up the box.

Yay, we got a patch and a pin! I have missed getting these in the boxes from Star Wars and Marvel, they really lost something when they didn’t have these. The Anakin patch is sweet, I really like the look having half Ani, half Vader. Ditto the Mace Windu pin, always looking so untrusting. The Commander Cody Order 66 luggage tag is a coll throw in as well, very strudy and should hold up for a long time.

The Palpatine Mystery Mini is the highlight of the box for me. That is not to say the Pop set is a disappointment, but we will get to that in a second. From the lightning at his fingertips to the perfectly sculpted robes, this mini is a home run. I was hoping for some Palpatine love in this Star Wars box, and I am not sad about the direction they took.

Finally, the final Smuggler’s Bounty Star Wars Pop is a Movie Moment for the ages. The epic duel on Mustafar between obi-Wan and a fallen Anakin is recreated in Pop form. My only real complaint here is that Anakin has the higher ground! Other than that, both Pops look fantastic. I love Ani’s Sith eyes, this may be the angriest Pop we will ever get. The platform base sitting on lava looks awesome, and really captures the mood of that fateful duel. this is a great addition to any Star Wars collection, even if you don’t collect Funko.

Exclusive Funko POP of Lord Drakkon in Comic Stores in January

Announced at Power Morphicon, in Anaheim this weekend, Diamond Comic Distributors will have an exclusive Funko POP vinyl figure of Lord Drakkon, an alternate-reality version of Tommy Oliver, the Green Ranger, from the Boom! Studios Mighty Morphin Power Rangers comic books, Shattered Grid.

Limited to 30,000 pieces worldwide, this figure will be in comic stores only in January 2019 with a retail price of $11.99.

Marvel’s Runaways Gets a Wave of Funko Pops… with One Huge Omission

Marvel’s Runaways fans: finally, we can collect our favorite teens! Funko has revealed an entire wave of Pops dedicated to the Hulu TV show versions of the kiddos, and they could not be cuter. Releasing this summer (which means this month since its August), all six kids from the show are here in all their glory. BUT… there is a glaring omission here that will earn a wag of the finger.

Marvel’s runaway teenage Super Heroes are getting the Pop! Vinyl treatment, which might not erase the sting of discovering that their parents are Super Villains, but it’s pretty cool nonetheless. Nico, Alex, Karolina, Gert, Molly and Chase will bring style, sass and a smorgasbord of Super Hero abilities to your collection. Nico comes with the Staff of One, Gert is armed with her signature riot grrrl style and Chase is armed with his Fistigons and ready to fight.

These all look fantastic. Finally I can add Nico to my Funko collection — she has been one of my favorites since the day she was introduced. Molly looks adorable — and somehow they captured Alex and his douchiness. I am a little surprised we aren’t getting any exclusives or chase versions, like an all-rainbow Karolina, but I am more surprised by who is not here at all.

WHERE IS OLD LACE?!?!

Why oh why would you not make Old Lace? That makes zero sense. They have dinos available in other lines! This is a terrible mistake and makes me really sad. The team just doesn’t feel complete without Old Lace, and hopefully they come to their senses and make one.
