Even when the dark comes crashing through…when you need a friend to carry you…when you’re broken on the ground…you will be found. So let the sun come streaming in ’cause you’ll reach up and you’ll rise again. If you only look around…you will be found. And when our children tell their story, they’ll tell the story of…The Weekly Static!
With proper respect to Lin-Manuel Miranda and Ben Platt, a little reminder that before there was Ryan Murphy‘s American Horror Story there was this week’s edition of…
The Weekly Static is our look at the past week in the land of the networks, cable, streaming, smoke signals, cloud formations, and shadow puppets from an interesting and entertaining perspective. So The Weekly Static’s “League of Moderately Evil Exes” (myself, Rocky, Trejo, Bat-Murr and Margo Staten) makes you these three promises… because we can:
● Offer blunt, honest perspectives on five TV topics from the past week covered by Bleeding Cool’s team of news-thirsty writers. Just to be clear? My views are my views and don’t reflect on the writers. We own what we say 110%.
● Spotlight a news item that we missed when it first hit, but we’re pretty sure you’ll want to know about.
● Feed my insatiable-yet-fragile ego with buckets of praise, adulation, social media shares, pizza, Superman Funkos, Eisner Awards, write-in votes for the 2020 U.S. Presidential Election… and a talking penguin, chicken and pig to go on zany adventures with.
“EXCLUSIVE: Stephen King adaptation Mr. Mercedes will be back for a ten-episode second season on August 22, AT&T Audience Network told Deadline during the show’s panel at The Contenders Emmys. Director Jack Bender joined stars Brendan Gleeson, Harry Treadaway, Kelly Lynch and Holland Taylor to discuss the series’ first run.
Speaking with Deadline’s Joe Utichi, Bender offered his first impressions of Mr. Mercedes. ‘When Stephen first sent me the galleys, I was thrilled,’ the director said. ‘He had never written a detective novel, and I found it fascinating that Stephen was writing this time about the monsters inside the people, as opposed to the monsters outside the people.'”
Ant-Man and the Wasp almost feels like the forgotten Marvel movie at the moment with Avengers: Infinity War coming in less than a week. I loved the first one, and the Funko Pops from that movie, to me at least, represents where Funko turned a huge corner in quality and ingenuity with the Pop line. We now have our first look at some of their products coming this summer in support of the film! Mostly Pops, but it looks like we are also getting Pop Keychains for Ant-Man and Wasp as well.

Both Ant-Man and the Wasp have unmasked Chase pieces!
A rarity of 1-in-6!
At Walmart look for another version of Ghost!
As far as the Pops go, all six look awesome. I love the mask-less chases to Ant-Man and Wasp. That Wasp Pop is awesome; the sculpt on her helmet is insane. The only thing I worry about is scoffing on the mask visor, as I have had that issue in the past — but I doubt it would happen again.
I also really dig the design for Ghost! The translucent one is exclusive to Walmart, and that will be the one to get. The chases are 1:6 ratio, so one case should have a chase in it, making those a bit easier to track down. Walmart exclusives however are a bit trickier. They sell out online quick and the stores are hit or miss. Best to keep a close eye there.
These will all be available in the summer, and judging by past releases I would think they start popping up in late May. You can preorder yourself some here.

Funko is excited to announce Black Panther, one of the highest grossingfilms of all time, is bac k with another round of Pop!
This latest wave features more great characters from this amazing movie, including the villains of Black Panther. You’ll be able to collect Erik Killmonger – this time shown in a black coat with his scars proudly displayed – and the black-market arms dealer Ulysses Klaue, featured with his sonic disruptor arm!
Rounding out the series is the headstrong M’Baku, leader of the rival Jabari Tribe, fan-favorite and Black Panther scene stealer.
Wakanda forever!
Since the first trailer for Making Fun – The Story of Funko was released, Funko Funatics have had just one question: How can I watch this?!
We are proud to announce that Making Fun – The Story of Funko will be available on Netflix soon! Stay tuned for more information about the official release for the documentary!
We are also excited to share that Making Fun – The Story of Funko was shown at the 2018 San Diego Film Awards and won Best Documentary Feature Film! We are extremely proud of the film as both a testament to the vibrant Funatic community and power of pop culture’s ability to bring people together.
Black Panther is getting a second wave of Funko Pops that will hit stores in the summer. Three characters will be available this time — a new Erik Killmonger with his chest tattoos in a coat, Jabari Tribe leader M’Baku looking like a complete badass, and Ulysses Klaue complete with his sonic disruptor arm at the ready. All three look great. They could probably make a ton more Panther Pops and they would still move insane numbers.

There are also two new versions of T’Challa hitting later this year that were announced at Toy Fair New York in February.
As we are one to do, we made our way over to the ThinkGeek booth at PAX East to say hi and see how things are going. And is the case sometimes, we got a few items from the event to properly review. One of the many unexpected items to come our way this year was a figure from Funko. It’s a little shocking to me at least because I never get Funko figures for review, so to see something that is a 2018 Spring Convention Exclusive come my way, of all things, I was both ecstatic and pleasantly surprised. The figure we managed to get this time around was the Cagney Carnation, one of the enemies of the Cuphead universe.
As far as cartoonish figures go, this is probably one of the better designs you’ll find as Cagney is perfectly shaped to resemble the boss fight, with every cruel intention in his eyes to the menacing way he stands and kind of lords over the smaller heroes of the game. That toothy white grin on his face is probably one of the best selling points as he immediately looks like he has an appearance of demonic intention. Even the hands, made out to have four digits like you would see in the game and the cartoons they’re based upon, look fantastic. Because of the way he is designed, Cagney is actually one of the bigger Funko items we’ve gotten, based purely on the span of his pedals.
If you manage to find your way to a ThinkGeek booth during the convention season before all the major ones kick off in the summer, and you dig the Cuphead figures in general, this may be worth your time to seek out and plop some coinage down on. Like a lot of Funko figures, he’s not gonna do much but sit there, but at least you’ll have a kind of flower on your desk, albeit an evil one with bad intentions.
